What happens here
This video discusses the crucial importance of using high-quality sealants and caulking, like Sashco's 'Big Stretch' and 'Lexel', for stucco exteriors. It explains how investing in superior products prevents moisture damage, air leaks, and pest intrusion, leading to enhanced durability, reduced long-term costs, and better aesthetic longevity, supported by product elasticity demonstrations and warranty information.

(7,498 characters)did you feel how easy it was it was very easy to pull I mean I'm not I'm not I'm not barely pulling that's right so that's a huge difference that's just literally as far as it'll stretch hey this is Christy Idaho painter here on paint live TV I got a special guest with me it's Nate here at sasco I've Got The Grand Tour of sasco I've got to learn all kinds of things about sealants one thing I want Nate you to explain to me because I know early on my career you know margins were kind of everything and money was tight because you know I'd always try to buy the best paints but what I put underneath the paints I really didn't care about and if I could find cheap caulking I would buy cheap Caulking and you know not all sealants and caulking are created equal now there's no dollar tubes anymore I think I was paying 96 cents for a tube right inflation you know 20 30 years later a little bit different but you know you have a range five dollars to ten dollars and it I mean do I really need to spend ten dollars on a tube of caulking is it really a difference what is inside this tuba call King can you explain a little bit to us in my audience about the differences it's a great question every homeowner can understand the difference between a 30-year shingle and a 50-year shingle right and they're they think in their mind okay I'm getting more value for the 50 years so I'm going to upgrade but most people would just think of this as kind of an accessory why would I pay a little bit more right and I would tell you that it's actually maybe more important than the shingle right because a shingle if properly lapped is Gonna Last a good long time right you can get hail resistant and all that but this is what's providing your waterproof and your air proof seal in all the Junctions where surfaces are meeting if you skimp on this and you get cracking in a sealant that's supposed to be giving you your waterproof barrier you know in the penetrations through the roof or your window or whatever it may be now you're going to have water coming in the house and at this point you know I mean this is kind of funny but why even live in a house if you got water coming in the house right the whole point of the house is to keep your stuff from getting wet insurance companies pay out about two and a half billion dollars a year on water damage wow right that you could stop by paying nine dollars for a tube of caulking instead of six dollars that makes a lot of sense and I and I noticed you know early on my career I didn't see a difference but then you know as I progressed throughout my career I would I noticed that if I uh purchased a cheap sealant and I won't name names but I would literally come back a year later and it would be cracked and um I would it would be so frustrating and so now I've got to go back I've got to touch up to those cracks I gotta reseal them I gotta repaint them so that's time and time you know is money another thing I I started to realize you know the average house that I was as a repainter doing you know um you'd go through maybe a case of caulking extreme cases maybe two cases of Caulking and if you really add that at five dollars or ten dollars five times twelve not a mathematician but five times twelve is 660. I almost said like 45. thanks to the hell um so sixty dollars and it's on the scheme of things sixty dollars on the average exterior repaint which is probably around thirty five hundred to four thousand dollars is such a small amount that why would you skimp on that amount yeah and and if you think about it from the homeowner's perspective right if if you get a sealant failure now you know air can move through your window assembly or whatever it is you're air conditioning the outside right you're paying for it and your energy bill yeah you might as well have not for it at the Shelf let me show you too I think this is kind of cool the difference between I won't even call it a cheap caulking but but just the differences in the types of caulking right this is a silicone it's a very popular silicone and I want you to just give it a pull okay so you can see it moves a little bit right so so we're simulating you know expansion and contraction from temperature changes but pull it just a little harder that's that's about as far as I can get that's about it it's making me look pretty weak though try this one okay this is like so this is from us okay now it's two things going on right first off you can stretch it a lot further right but second off did you feel how easy it was it was very easy to pull I mean I'm not I'm not I'm not barely pulling that's right so that's a huge difference that's just literally as far as it'll stretch that's as far as it'll go so lexel and uh pretty popular brand of silicone right there that's right so which one would you rather have keeping the water out well I know which one I had for the Apple miles so I'm gonna put a lexile in my house so you've talked about water you've talked about air but what about bugs where I live is these little things called cutter bees are really annoying building nests in your corner boards and your window trim and stuff like that so I've always thought you know of my Caulking and ceilings is solving an issue that you know like that water wind bugs but also aesthetic it looks a lot nicer when you caulk um it looks a lot nicer you know when the caulking isn't cracked you know two years three years down the road and you know I've noticed you really do get what you pay for and I think you know for me as a painter one of my selling points why choose me not why not to choose the other guy why choose me I always tell them I use lifetime warranty products and I use lifetime warranty or the best ceilings and and that um can you talk a little bit about the warranty of um Big Stretch everything that we make comes with a lifetime warranty everything and and so that's why you know I talk about the shingles right like the the through the roof if you're putting that on the roof it's going to outlast the shingles right there's actually one product that comes with better than a lifetime warranty and I hope I hope that's kind of a head scratcher right but you know most companies will if there's a failure they'll replace the product right and that's helpful but at the same time if you gotta drive back to the job exactly the nine dollars for the tube cocking really doesn't help that much right so on our clean seal brand if it grows mold in the first seven years we will pay for your labor to go back and redo the job in addition to the nine dollars that everyone else so this is clean seal right there so um where would you use clean sail kitchen and bath kitchen invitations anti-mold so there you go just a little bit about you know the technology why pay for a good caulking I think it was probably about Midway through my career you know I transitioned to you know high-end um sealants and big stretches one of those sealants that you can trust you can offer it to your customers give them the confidence that your paint's Gonna Last your sealant's gonna last and it's going to just eventually be more profitable for you and less headaches because you're not going to be going back and doing touch-ups so thank you very much Nate for that information hopefully this helps you in choosing the right ceiling we've got to learn a lot about sealants um why sealants are sealants that's weird okay no that's called blooper [Music] foreign [Music]
