Can you guess why concrete footings wouldn’t work here?

What happens here

The process begins with the operator positioning an excavator, equipped with a hydraulic auger drive head, next to the house foundation. A lead section of a helical pile is then carefully aligned vertically with the drive head. An assisting worker provides hands-on guidance to ensure the pile starts plumb and is properly seated in the drive head before the driving mechanism is engaged.

Goal: Prepare the helical pile and machinery for initial driving into the ground.

Tools and materials

  • Excavator — Providing power and positioning for the hydraulic auger drive head
  • Hard Hat — Head protection from falling objects or impacts
  • Helical Pile — The initial part of the foundation support structure that is screwed into the ground
  • Hydraulic Auger Drive Head — Rotating and driving the helical pile into the ground
  • Safety Glasses — Eye protection from debris or projectiles
  • Safety Gloves — Protecting hands during handling of heavy components and machinery
