(12,012 characters)hey folks that fix it guy here and today we're gonna be checking out a fluid master toilet fill valve all right this is one of my favorite toilet fill valves to install personally they're bomber they last a long time you've heard me talk about them before you've seen a video that i just put out three ways to fix a slow filling toilet and now i want to open this up talk a little bit about it i had it in my garage it was a spare part that somebody had gave me at some point just to give to somebody else so come along let's get to fixing [Music] [Applause] okay so this is what we're talking about this is the fluid master performax toilet fill valve right it's got leak sensory it's got a water saver feature it's maybe a little bit more than i usually would buy right i like the run of the mill regular fluid master that thing it's bomber i don't really need all these other things but they are good options so let's talk about this thing let's pull it apart let's look at it see what it looks like i just want to show you guys know what you're going to buy this right here amazing product okay this is a 400 ar h rls i don't think they make this one anymore they still make this setup they make a performax which is a 400 ah they make the universal which is the 400a which is a standard one that doesn't come with any of this and this one is now called the 400 srl okay i'll put a link in the description box for all these different ones and personally you can just go with the run of the mill the cheapie and it's going to be probably better than what's in there or the same if you have an older fluid master fill valve i personally think they work these just have a little more bells and whistles to them right all right so it's so nice that people tend to give me parts sometimes just because they know that i give them away to other people so thank you it's always pretty cool that way if i have somebody that needs a tool to repair well i already got some in my garage okay so let's see what's in the box right off the get-go you look at the top of this this one is before max says high refill on the top right this is the specialty thing this is a higher performance fluid master fill valve okay this right here it says that with this feature it offers two times greater refill rate than the other i can tell you looking at this i know that this plug-in piece right here is a little bit more upgraded i don't know what that looks like inside we'll have to check that out we'll see if we can notice a difference in there and if so i'll tell you about it but i wonder if it's actually going to be down in here in that flow restrictor right if that's going to look a little different i'll show you how to take that out too and what we're looking at here this is the easy twist height adjustment right so you're able to just pop this ring off it's just a little collar that slides up and you want to make sure when you put this in you get your height adjustment always close that down because that could end up not being cool all right and then you're able to pop this out the first time to get these out are sometimes hard right but once you once you're able to do that you get that initially out the first time it's good to go then you're able to twist it it actually if you pop this out you can see it has some numbers on it you can go up different levels there get that lock back in place and so then this right here you see that with the phillips head set up this is the micro adjustments you're able to adjust this up or down there's actually a plus or minus right here you can see the plus and the minus and you can adjust this up or down to make little micro adjustments and final tweak the height of your water let's just go with this this is the gasket this one of the first things i do take this right here and pop it in there these actually used to come with a two-piece thing and they always offered a these actually used to come with a two-piece thing if i can find one i'll show you they they used to come with their own um piece that actually fit into the supply line gasket which what i thought was a pretty cool idea they don't do that anymore i don't guess we'll see on a different model but that goes in there that goes down inside your tank you've got this right here screws on now the instructions will tell you they just want this to be finger tight that's why they've changed their nut and they just make this this way they want it to be hand tight personally i still like to give it just a little snug right eighth quarter just a baby turn after i get it to hand tight but so there you go comes with that nut as well comes with this hose this hose is definitely upgraded right you get a regular fluid master it's not going to come with these two little clips these clips are on the end right so if you are hooking this hose up well if you don't fat finger it like me if you're hooking this hose up right like this you get it in there well i can tell you that if you don't have these clips that's going to stay in there because i mean this is the way most of their stuff is made but then they just have these little clips right here that will hook that up and maybe with a two times greater refill you might need these on here i don't know that i've noticed so crazy much of a difference but and then if you wanted to slow that water down well and i don't know who wants to slow their refill rate down but this is a water saving feature this water saving roller clamp lets you regulate the fill of the bowl right so you could go slower or you could bump it up and go faster and then this piece right here it just connects right onto the overflow tube and just the same thing it'll come right from the top like this connect right on top of that overflow tube right and here's a picture of it it's just going to connect right on there like that and let's talk about this bad boy so this is a leak century all right interesting design to me i i've only ever seen these things kind of get hung up and i've only took them out cut them out because they're kind of hard to get out okay so i'm going to show you how this thing works i'll show you how it goes in and then you'll be able to see just exactly how it rolls so a lot of fill valves are not going to have you see all those little lines right there they're not really going to have that right there but this is actually designed specifically for this little thing and these little vampire teeth right here typically not going to see that on a universal either you're gonna line this up between these two there's two holes right here and these little pieces are just gonna go right up in here and it's just gonna clip the whole way and they said once it's in here and it's actually setting flush mounted on that then it's good to go so that is up there and now what it does this hooks up to your chain and your handle comes back down this actually stops and what that does is it stops and it doesn't allow this to go back down when this flushes it goes down this goes back up if this chain is down then that means that that little thing is dug in there and then this ain't gonna go back down anymore therefore it's not gonna be able to leak great in theory not my favorite in practice okay i'll just say that and if you ever wanted to get this out well it's a little bit of a challenge but i'll show you real quick because you can either uh take this and you could try to pop this piece off and it will come off you can you can bend this out it's just a couple little hinge pieces right here or you can pop the ball apart right that's a feature with these that they didn't used to have and then you can get right down in here and those tabs that are on each side of this you can just push those down kind of pull up an old screwdriver it's sitting right here so once you get that out you can see that these little things just kind of jagged and crazy and once they get in there they get lodged they get lodged all right so able to get that out nice thing is this thing kind of just goes together one way you can't put it together that way it just kind of has to go this way and then it just pops back in place like literally just clips back no problem you're good to go so now let's pop off this bad boy so you can remove the cap you can actually take this you can pull it apart you can clean debris out and you can also grab this and you can swap out this seal once again we're looking at the fourth piece of metal there is not a lot of metal in these things and it kind of makes them last a long time because really treated water tends to eat metal and i mean this stuff is stainless steel and so it's good to go it just lasts man so makes with the plastic that's one of the reasons why these guys have became such a force in this game so when you put this back together you typically want to make sure that your hose is going to be in back of your adjustment arm okay so just right by it i mean trust me you can put this back a million different ways but then you're fighting the hose to get it around stuff i'm just letting you know right now that if you just right there looking at that 45 degree angle off to the left of it you're gonna be good and hooked up okay that's pretty much all we need to know about this that's about as far as you're gonna disassemble this to clean it to check it the last thing which you just saw in my my latest um slow filling toilet video is going to be this down in here right and so a little bit of pressure and then it'll just pull out dude if that really was not bad at all then you can just get it and pop it out so i can tell you this looks to be the same different color plastic than the one that was actually in my fill valve oh and this one maybe i maybe i broke it or maybe it was already broken i mean maybe it's a little old i might have chopped on it a little bit i don't think it's gonna make much of a difference um but i'm anxious to see compared to a universal one if this has bigger grooves or not a lot of people don't know that this is in there all right but this is restrictor and it says right on their website that hey you can take this out but by removing this i'm pretty sure you avoid the warranty you will also you know probably have some water hammer i don't know that you want the full force of your water coming into your toilet could end up being a little bit crazy it's a lot of psi man so it's nice to have a restrictor and you can tell this is a good amount of restriction all right we'll be doing some fun tests with this stuff but i just wanted to show you guys everything that came in this and like i said we'll be doing some fun stuff we'll be doing comparison with them at some point i just had this in my garage you know popping that out i just figured i want to show you guys so hope you enjoyed all right folks so there you have it fluid master performax toilet fill valve right if you need a new toilet fill valve consider a fluid master my personal opinion they are the bomb all right these guys have been honestly they've been taking over toilet by toilet there is a lot of toilets out there right now that have these in them every time i've looked in another tank it seems like a manufacturer has added this to it gone away from their other stuff why because these things last i really hope you guys found the video helpful i hope that it was nice that i explained some of these things you learned a little bit about it and there will be some more installed videos i have installed videos on my channel you can check those out um i just did a way to kind of take it apart and check this thing right check it for debris maybe help your toilet fill a little faster these things really are that simple they're that easy to use and they last a long time i really hope you guys enjoyed the video if you can please subscribe to the channel click the like button we'd love to have you keep coming back thank you very much and we'll see you again real soon
