BIG TOOLS ON A BIG TRACTOR! Today we fertilize the farm!

What happens here
This project demonstrates the process of drag harrowing a pasture using a tractor and a large batwing drag harrow. The goal is to efficiently spread cattle manure across the land, promoting soil health and regenerative farming practices by distributing nutrients, feeding soil microbes, and reducing the need for synthetic fertilizers. The video highlights the efficiency of the equipment and the ecological benefits of this method.

(8,210 characters)guys in today's video big t is getting a workout with the winfield drag hero we got bat wings yeah hope you enjoy i ain't afraid i ain't afraid of play i ain't afraid to get the job done [Music] if you mess with my freedom i'll tell you just what you can kiss that's right all right folks good morning good afternoon good evening whichever it is for you and welcome to another awesome day here on the stoney ridge farm this is a first generation cattle operation here in the foothills of the blue ridge mountains a regenerative farm a farm where we use manure not fertilizer to feed our land a problem where we correct the ph in our land with the urine and the manure from our ruminant animals our cattle and also our chickens so what we have here today this is a tym t 1104 it's the biggest tractor tym imports to the u.s this is an awesome tractor i can't say enough about it and you're going to get to see it at work here in just a minute this is made in america winfield drag harrow this is from winfield american harrow and this is a monster of a drag hera so this is the batwing model i'll post all the specs down there scrolling across the screen in case you guys want to know which model it is and i'll post a link in this video to winfield harrow so you guys can see winfield american hero so this thing is a monster you guys suggested this and i was just dragging along this size harrow not with the bat wings and i went on and ordered myself the batwing harrow the batwing is going to give us i think it's 16 feet uh it might be 20 feet i'll post the specs down there but it's gonna cut our time in half harrowing our manure so what we have to do i'm gonna take you over here and show you the pasture that i harrowed last fall after we moved the cows out man look how pretty that is it's just beautiful if you're a tractor guy if you're a farm guy that is just beautiful so i'm over here at my first cow pasture this is right outside my front door and this is what i harrowed you're going to get some drone footage of this and you'll see little specks of green grass dark green grass that's where we got out here and we raked out the manure so wherever there was a manure pet or wherever a cow took a pee pee there's dark green grass what we're doing here is a regenerative farm in other words we're not going out here and throwing thousand dollars worth of or thousands of dollars worth of fertilizer out on our land and wasting that time and wasting that money and wasting that diesel fuel when our cows will do it for us simply by providing them with hay and letting them work the land hay minerals and ruminant animals moving throughout your farm so this land was a bit over grazed last year and i haven't got my grazing program 100 percent dialed in yet it's a first generation farm this is only my third year with cal so we're making progress you can see lawn versus pasture now when we get the drone up in the air you'll get to see what we're gonna do is we're dragging this pasture which is across the road from my home that pasture land over there the cows have been over there most of the winter and there's about 42 to 46 acres total in that large pasture over there what we're going to drag is probably 35 acres it's going to take us somewhere in the neighborhood of an hour and 10 minutes to drag 35 acres with that batwing 35 acres in an hour and 10 minutes that is impressive and what we're doing is simply taking big old poopy piles and making them into smaller poopy piles what that does is disperse the nutrient all over the land instead of having a clump of green grass a clump of green glass a clump of green grass that's hard to say we have dispersed green grass and we have more nutrients spread upon the land thus more earthworms more microbes more soil microbes that are going to help heal our land and that's what regenerative farming is all about one cool thing about the tym t 1104 here is that it has three remote hookups on the back right here one two three this remote is hooked up to the float remote okay so this will float along the ground and there are two hydraulic cylinders one on this side and one over on that side and both of those are operated off of the same remote you can see they all come together right here and then they hook in right here we also have an awesome addition to this tractor this is called a hydraulic top link and that makes things really really simple and easy also looks like i got a tiny leak right here i'm going to have to tighten that up that's on my hydraulic top link right there so without further ado let's fire this puppy up and we're going to get busy sun's about to go down here in just a little bit we'll get you some beautiful shots of the farm guys hope you enjoyed the video please post any questions or comments you might have right down there in the comments section [Music] do guys i can't say how impressed i am with this harrow this thing is a huge time saver and just the perfect thing for spreading out all these manure pets some of these manure pets out here that these cows are putting out are upwards of like a five gallon bucket full of manure can you imagine over the next two to three years we'll basically have a two to three inch layer of manure on the top of all of our soil so if we leave these manure pads alone they'll grow big clumps of grass and the cows will hardly touch them because it's too close to their feces and that increases their risk of getting parasites like worms so we don't have to worm our cattle because we're spreading the manure out we're not wasting the manure in big piles and big pets that's what this is all about being smart with your land managing your property every square inch of your property if it's not being used it's not worth having [Music] so guys while we're pulling this along i want to show you real quick and you can see from the footage i've got a camera mounted to the harrow you can see these it looks like a chain almost it's basically called a chain harrow these are links that are all linked together with different tines or teeth there are different ways that you can drag you can drag it more aggressive or less aggressive depending on the way that you have the drag set up we've got it set up in the most aggressive way and what this does is it kind of digs a tiny little trench maybe a half inch to a quarter inch trench into the soil which allows that manure to settle in those little trenches fill those in feed those worms feed those microbes and help our soil to grow we're not just growing beef we're growing soil and that's where it all starts and we really have to think about this guys so i'm going to get you a little footage right now of what the harrow actually looks like and how these tines are interlocked and how it all works and you can also connect a drag to the rear of this machine and even do more work with it so whether you're using a harrow this big or whether you're using a little five or six four-foot harrow behind your atv or utv just dragging your horse pastures or your small farm it all works in the same principle [Music] all right man what'd you guys think of that that was super awesome holy cow what a difference it made out in that pasture all those manure clots some of those manure clots were like eight inches tall they're like a five gallon bucket full of cow poop man that is feeding your land feeding the microbes feeding the earthworms feeding the mycorrhizal fungi doing what we're supposed to do back before we had to stop thinking about it when we have to farm by throwing chemicals and money on the land it takes the thought process away what we're trying to do here is bring it back to our roots bring farming back to our roots where we have to think about the soil because that's where it all starts guys i hope you enjoyed this video that's the winfield drag harrow i'll post a link down to the website and the tym website for you too if you guys have any questions please post them down there pound that like button subscribe the channel i'd love to have you back on the stoney ridge [Music] [Applause] [Music] you drip do you still drip yeah that's it that's a wrap man with a good looking tractor
