Best way to build a freestanding deck: lay your rim on the beam, nail from behind, push in to place.
What happens here
With a verbal count of "one, two, three" for synchronization, the two workers lift the heavy wooden joist and carefully guide it into its precise location within the deck frame. This involves seating one end onto a ledger board, which is typically attached to the house, and the other end onto a perimeter beam or supporting post. The joist must be flush with the top of the ledger/beam and correctly spaced from the previous joist.
Goal: Securely position a new joist within the deck frame.

- Level — Verifying the top surface of the joist is level
- Pressure-Treated Lumber — Being installed as part of the deck's structural frame
- Tape Measure — Checking joist spacing and length
- Work Gloves MaxiFlex — Hand protection and improved grip during the lift
