What happens here

Dan Styer from GripEdge Tools demonstrates their socket extractors, designed to remove 100% rounded nuts, bolts, and even studs. Unlike traditional twist-socket designs that are tapered and primarily effective for removal in one direction, GripEdge uses a non-tapered, straight-cut design that provides immediate and bidirectional bite. He demonstrates extracting a heavily rounded Grade 8 bolt by hammering the socket onto it and then loosening it with a ratchet. He also shows how a patented foreign object removal rod can be threaded into the back of the socket to push out the extracted fastener, eliminating the need for a bench vise and punch. Another useful feature is the ability to tap smaller GripEdge sockets onto a larger stud to effectively remove it.

Goal: Understand the unique design and effectiveness of GripEdge socket extractors for rounded fasteners.
