Site Preparation and Sub-Base Creation

What happens here
Before any construction begins, the area designated for the patio and walkway must be thoroughly prepared. This involves removing any existing vegetation, soil, or debris, and excavating the area to the required depth to accommodate the gravel base and pavers. Heavy machinery like a Bobcat, as seen in the video, is typically used for large areas to efficiently clear and level the ground. Proper grading is crucial to ensure adequate drainage away from the house and structures. The excavated area is then compacted using a plate compactor to create a stable sub-base. It is important to account for the thickness of the gravel base, sand bedding layer, and the pavers themselves when determining the excavation depth.
Goal: Clear and level the site, establish proper drainage, and compact the sub-base.
