Because this house already has such an interesting roof line, we knew we have to be bold!

What happens here

The initial framing of the main support structure is established. This step involves installing the primary horizontal support beams that will span between the main posts (which are either pre-existing or installed at the beginning of this phase). Workers are seen on ladders or temporary scaffolding, carefully positioning and securing these heavy wooden beams. These beams form the top perimeter of the structure and are crucial for supporting the roof's weight.

Goal: Erect the primary horizontal framework for the roof

Tools and materials

  • Circular Saw — Cutting beams to precise lengths if needed
  • Impact Driver or Drill — Driving structural screws or pilot holes for bolts
  • Ladders — Accessing the top of the posts and positioning beams
  • Level — Ensuring beams are perfectly horizontal
  • Measuring Tape — Accurately measuring beam lengths and placement
  • Safety Glasses — Protecting eyes from debris
  • Work Gloves — Protecting hands from splinters and rough lumber
  • Wrenches/Sockets — Tightening nuts on through-bolts
  • Large Wooden Beams — Creating the main horizontal structure of the shelter
  • Structural Screws or Lag Bolts — Securing beams to posts
