A new way of Digging

oh my God look at my yard look what Zach did to my yard this is what happens when you leave your children [Music] rock satisfying pressure washer video you say not today go outside and have fun that's probably a good idea well we have the worst possible scenario you can think of we're getting deep in today's video boys so we've got a pretty big excavation job coming up right in my backyard and we've got to find a buried gas line a buried phone line buried power everything is buried right straight in our backyard and we don't know where and we can't just start digging cuz if we hit one of those things it could be Kaboom let's go let's turn the camera over to Zach and we're going to be using some brand new tools that we've never used before and we're going to be digging in a wave that we've never personally tried it is common in the industry Hydro Excavation but we're going to be doing it a little different so let's do it right now now all right Zach I got the camera rolling I'm going to hand you the camera I'll be out in about 5 minutes okay oh it's all in good fun all right so we got the hydrovac 2 over here then we got the ego pressure washer as our source of water and and pressure to try and hopefully find you the gas line the power line that go from there to the house we're trying to dig through like pretty much clay yeah last few rainstorms we had this whole thing was full full to the top just holding water there was no water seeping down now this area used to be the driveway that we used for about two decades so it is hardpacked material with different layers of class five and material put in place hand digging through this thing is not an option and these are all new tools so we don't know if what we're work working with today is even going to work the the key element is this hydrovac let's just see how this thing works so this hydrovac is basically a glorified shot back on steroids and it's not cheap either I ran into this guy at a trade show and his name was Ed really good dude and what he told me was that this thing has got so much power that if you put it on top of a wheelbarrow cuz it's designed to fit right on top of a wheelbarrow and then it has so much suction it just basically sucks itself onto the wheelbarrow but if you have the wrong wheelbarrow it will collapse and crush the wheelbarrow out from underneath it so he says the only kind of wheelbarrow that it doesn't crush and collapse is a steel Jackson so luckily we had one down at the shop we grabbed it and we're going to see exactly if this thing can do everything that Ed claims it can do he says that it can suck from 50 ft away he says it can suck 12 feet underground he says this thing is a sucking monster let's just see how well it sucks okay so I got to explain this to my granddaughter cuz you're going to be digging in the dirt when you get bigger yes you are little one so this guys is actually a hydro vac and it's designed to do excavation underground you can go down as deep as this thing as the hose is I've seen videos where this thing will suck 50 ft away and they claim that this thing here will crush a normal wheelbarrow oh yeah I can hear it flexing the metal wheelbarrow as I'm using it you can hear it flexing the that's a steel Jackson yeah it's flexing the sides of it any other one would probably just imploded like a tin can well it looks like it's leaking right now I'd rather just leak the water out I know but is it full how much do you get in it no that's pretty low so what we're doing is we're going to be putting a pond in in here but we have got an electrical line a live electrical line that powers the barn and it runs from the barn to the house and it's somewhere in here and we've got to dig that up before we dig the pond well if you need an extra hand I'll volunteer her all right guys I'm giving the camera back to Zach I got my hands full right now which is just fine and Dan because that's what life's about enjoying your time while you can we only got so many of these days years moments and I want to say thank you to you guys for coming along for the ride and hanging out with us well we share our journey don't share nicely the power of the hoty is insane the ego is great for no normal pressure washing stuff but when you need power that's when you pull the hoty in look you're going to end up watching that going satisfying pressure washer video you say not today that boy talks constantly he talks while he's walking one way he talks while he's walking the other way and nobody ever listens to them it's what happens when you say too much people stop listening to everything you got to do what's that dirt monkey I talk too much yes I know I talk too much that's my job I got to talk I mean who the you having fun no you're sticking with me all right you want to see if we can find this line using this weird Hydro Excavation method you're one of those guys that got when you got an itch you got to scratch it right I'm with you on that when I start seeing someone try to do something if I don't get to see him finish it it bugs me bugs me and I hate those videos where don't finish oh look at he looks all he looks like a looks like he's going out to go uh trout fishing are you trout fishing you're fishing for a power line I I was saying maybe you should move the uh now we would have did normal excavation but this used to be a driveway for about 20 years and I built it and I packed the crap out of this and then I drove all my heavy equipment over it you're not digging through it what you you think you can digor you want to volunteer time lapse time [Music] okay look at how deep that is put that pipe down in or the shovel use the shovel put the shovel in it let's show these guys that's a rock yeah we're not deep and I haven't found any layers yet yeah okay I don't find them but oh I've been going either direction too oh no offense Zach when you're locating utility lines like this we go sideways and then we go down and we determine side you know you don't go keep going straight down sir this is what happens when you leave your children unsupervised I'm telling you right now and with nice toys and with nice toys hey how does the shop back work though on a serious though great great all right so you're deep enough obviously cuz we're that's deeper than we're going to make the pond in this area and yeah you did go sideways but you could be over the top of it so the line we know Zach runs somewhere from that point it comes in on the barn on the side so you need to go slideways this way with these things yeah okay what is that telling you somewhere in here then go that way but you don't have to go quite so deep I would just start digging that trench sideways we know it's between that point and that point so you're not going to dig this way you're going to dig this way and then you're just going to create that trench and kind of keep working back and forth and you you feel like it's over there concentrate in that area so if you guys don't happen to have an extra qu million to $325,000 back truck to do your job you could buy one of these yeah and rent yourself a Zach for a couple hours and be in business [Music] you want water what you think you want anything else you got plenty of water [Music] here that hoty pressure washer with that turbo jet on want to happen dig a big ass hole we are digging a hole but that's not till Monday that means for the next 5 days I'm going to have all that crap going into there all right I got my own project to do just to be clear you're answering to Nikki putting it on him you told me to dump in here I didn't think you're going to make that much of a mess it's all your fault you know it's okay to give your employees crap I it's just a bonding thing right but you got to balance it out you got to do something nice as well so they know that it's not just all mean stuff oh that is hot hot hot hot hot hot it made a difference but it was a huge thing take if I took every single one of my guys out to lunch separately not just as a group but separately and just spent one lunch every now and then with them they were just so happy and it's not because it's me it's because they're being recognized for the effort that they put in on a daily basis that's all you got to do little things not a huge thing you don't have to give them a giant salary a giant bonus I mean those they love those things but a guy just wants to be recognized for the effort they put forward they really do there's a lot of different ways that you can do that around here giving a guy a good ribbon goes a long way kind of tells them they're part of the team as long as they know that it's good natured and you do it good natured now that sometimes you got to balance that out with uh doing something good for them you can't just rib rib rib sometimes you got to balance that out and do something good that's what I've learned what have you guys discovered so if you want to keep a person on your team and keep them around you got a good guy you want to enjoy I mean I also want guys to enjoy what they do it's not just about sticking around it's about every day showing up and having fun not just fun though cuz that can go the wrong way having fun while you move forward while you progress while you get a lot done um that's that's my goal that's what I strive for getting up and enjoying my people enjoying the process and doing what we do but we're going to eat lunch now and then we'll take it from there and if you notice I have this homemade barricade set up it's cuz of that thing you seen my little grandbaby earlier in the video well guess who likes to call my grandbaby over yeah yeah you like to call her over come on she crawls down and goes come on come on and then bites her not hard but even a little bite the little fingers can hurt a lot yes it can yeah no you got to be nice to my babies you got to be nice to my babies you're one of my babies we're nice to you you got to be nice to my babies I handed you this bowl 2 minutes ago did you even taste it it tasted all right was all right yeah you didn't like it never had it before so I I have nothing to really compare it to yeah it's weird weird isn't it yeah I love it freaking zupa if you haven't tried zupa should try my wife's it's good all take that out of context okay on that bomshell all righty then all right uh we got to find this line though and we still haven't found it so little bit left to go zachari I think take your full Zach I haven't found anything what's that I haven't found anything going that direction on just to give you an idea he's been working on this for probably about 2 hours roughly there's no way he could have hand dug that not not it's not possible possible no not through your compacted material that you put in when you put your house in I mean this is I mean you can see that there's some nasty chunks of thick stuff down there yeah that's like an actual rock right there on that one side hopefully we find it yay that's what Zach is saying all right no false Flags let's see what we get all of us are getting a reading Zach got the same reading from here to there for something so it could be deeper than what you've currently digging but let's see if we got another one this way here which is exactly where I think the power line goes right here I've set it from start to finish I think the power line goes there calm down I know you're excited coming and going Zach coming and going yeah it never showed up for me and I did it I don't know how many times yeah and there's a copper line here so that just read that but that copper line I don't care if we hit that or not that's it's just a CPP I mean Frankie's already told me he gets dibs on it if we hit it but it's empty so I'm not worried about that one I'm worried about the live electrical line so I think we got to go this way a little bit more [Music] all right hey let's show them the wiccan rods don't lie look at that right where we said it'd be there's all of our lines that is a cable and I think that's that copper line I was talking about well that copper line is almost that big around Oh shoot that's our gas line then that one a little tiny when got big so I knew I was hitting something it curves from over there so I hit it and then it Cur and then it curves and comes this way and I'm assuming yeah right into the furnace D NAIT must you cut that off you don't really need it anyway yeah we're going to have to disconnect it and tap it all right guys well we have the worst possible scenario you can think of all right so here's what we've got going on gas line cable line phone line about what 18 in deep you think Zach uh yeah I'd say so cuz it's pretty much about the same over on this side okay and the pond that we're going to be putting in here is going to be 4 ft deep right there yeah ding right ding that's bad news ding worst possible scenario ding basically what it means did you find it yet Zach I tried thinking okay it'll be right there no it's not there so it it it probably takes a jaunt and then goes I thought you found where it was uh teed before oh so that's the tea right there yeah here's the T this is your hot tub line wait that's the hot tub line line yeah that's all your electric for your hot tub oh jeez okay okay so cuz I found that while I was digging for your trench for oh that's right that's right that's right okay putting that in so we've got to find the gas line then we've got to turn off the gas at the meter then we've got to cut the gas line after we we've got to abandon the gas line and cap the gas line so we got plenty of work to do we got plenty of work to do before the work even begins but that's why we're spending the day doing the excavation because last thing I want is a full crew here we're in the middle of stuff and now we've got to switch and change gears so we're just trying to do what we can do before the real work begins but that's it for this one hope you guys enjoyed going along for the ride and uh let me know what you guys if you when you work on
