3 Ways To Temporary Cap A Drain Line

What happens here

To install a robust temporary drain cap, locate the 1 1/2-inch copper DWV (Drainage, Waste, and Vent) pipe, which has a brass MIP (Male Iron Pipe) adapter with external threads. Take an Oatey Gripper pipe plug, which is a rubber plug with a wing nut mechanism. Insert the gripper plug into the drain opening and then tighten the wing nut. As the wing nut is tightened, the rubber expands, creating a secure, watertight, and airtight seal within the drain pipe, effectively preventing sewer gases from escaping.

Goal: Seal the drain line using an expandable gripper plug
