3 Water Heater Fixes Every Homeowner Should Know

What happens here

After the tank has been thoroughly flushed and the Turbo Tank Cleaner removed, the new full-port drain valve is closed. The cold water supply is then slowly turned back on to allow the water heater to refill completely. Once the tank is full, the presenter proceeds to relight the pilot light. This involves pressing and holding the pilot button on the gas control valve, clicking the igniter until a flame appears, and continuing to hold the button for about 30-60 seconds to allow the thermocouple to heat up and maintain the pilot flame. After the pilot is stable, the main burner is engaged by turning the gas control knob to the 'On' position and setting the desired water temperature. Finally, a meticulous inspection is performed around all newly installed components, including the anode rod port and the new drain valve, to ensure there are no leaks. He also tests the hot water at a nearby sink to confirm proper operation and water temperature.

Goal: Restore water and gas supply, relight the water heater, and ensure all new connections are leak-free.

Let's fill it. And let's drain it. We've got full port rolling here. So just take your time, fill it up. I got I got it cracked just a little bit. You know, once in a while I'll pop the TMP, let some air out. Just got a little bit of dripping coming out of the T&P. So, now we can go over here to the sink. Oh, yeah. There we go. That noise to the water heater has stopped. So, we can crank this valve all the whole way. Let me crank this on down in there. >> [snorts] >> Oh, yeah. Full port. Great. Well, that worked out really well. Got a rubber band for this thing until next time. I only got one worry with this thing is did it destroy something in the tank? I don't think that it did, but the the skeptic side of me is like, "Hey, man, if we're beating around in there, like that's probably not the best scenario." Proper cap that comes on with it. It's always great. It's good to have a secondary, a backup, just in case somebody were to hit this. Well, at least it's not going to explode and go everywhere cuz it's got this backup on it. You're in pilot mode now. Now, you want to hold this down while clicking the igniter. There we go. Okay. So, you can see that that is the pilot light. You want to hold this valve down until the thermal couple is hot enough. Now, it [snorts] it is hot enough, so I can release that. And as soon as I turn this to on, we've got fire in there. And so now, we're going to check for some leaks, right? We get right up around here. Right up around there, and check that. That doesn't look Everything looks good right there. Unless you get down to look at that split in the bottom, you never even knew that was off there now.
