FAQs

What are the essential tools for making a Trinidad Sour, and are there any specialized items I should know about?

You'll primarily need a cocktail shaker, a jigger for measuring, a double strainer, and a chilled coupe or cocktail glass. While a 'Cocktail Bitters Sampler' is listed, you just need Angostura bitters. Please disregard any tools listed that are clearly unrelated to cocktail making, as they are not part of this recipe.

Is it safe to use raw egg white in cocktails, and what precautions should I take?

Using fresh, pasteurized egg whites is generally safe and helps create a frothy texture. If pasteurized options aren't available, consider using a vegan alternative like aquafaba to achieve a similar foamy top without raw egg. Always ensure your eggs are fresh and handled hygienically if not pasteurized.

The recipe calls for a significant amount of Angostura bitters; how can I ensure my Trinidad Sour isn't overwhelmingly bitter?

Achieving balance is key with this bitter-forward cocktail. Ensure precise measurements for all ingredients, especially the sweet orgeat syrup and sour lemon juice, to properly temper the bitters. Start with the recommended amount and adjust slightly in future batches if needed, but remember the distinct bitterness defines this drink.

Can I make a Trinidad Sour without the egg white, and what will be the difference in the final drink?

Yes, you can absolutely omit the egg white if preferred. The egg white is included to provide a desirable frothy texture and a smoother, silkier mouthfeel to the cocktail. Omitting it will not alter the flavor profile but will result in a clearer drink with a less velvety consistency.
