Begin by thoroughly cleaning the existing wooden stairs to remove any dust, debris, or old adhesive residue. Then, use a measuring tape to accurately determine the dimensions of each stair tread (the horizontal part) and riser (the vertical part). Also, measure any landing areas. Lay out the bulk carpet material on a clean, flat surface. Using a measuring tape and a long straight edge, mark the precise cutting lines for each individual carpet section required for the treads, risers, and any curved or landing areas. Carefully cut the carpet along these lines using a sharp utility knife, ensuring all pieces are accurately sized for their specific locations on the stairs.
