Divide this sum by the minimum required baluster spacing (e.g., 4 inches) plus the thickness of one baluster. Round this result up to the nearest whole number to get the total number of balusters for that section. Then, divide the original inside width by the number of balusters to get the precise spacing. To easily maintain this spacing during installation, create a 'spacer' block from a scrap piece of wood, cut to the calculated spacing. Place the spacer between each baluster as you install them. Attach the balusters by counter-sinking a hole and adding a screw to both the top and bottom rails. Repeat this process for each railing section.
