Square and Secure the Frame — Position and Secure Attic Ladder
Part of project
Attic Ladder Installation · Step 4 of 6
In this video
To ensure the frame is perfectly square, measure diagonally across the opening in both directions using a tape measure. The measurements should be within approximately 1/8 of an inch of each other. If they are not, use shims between the attic stair frame and the rough opening to square it up. Once aligned, add temporary support screws through the attic stair frame into the rough framing to hold it securely. Pre-drill pilot holes on the hinge side of the attic stair frame, then secure it permanently with lag screws. Repeat this for the opposite side.
