With the end framing pieces cut, the next step is to mark the center point for the ladder's rough opening on the ceiling from below, and then transfer these marks to the attic side of the framing. The total hallway width is measured, and the center is calculated to mark the installation point. In the attic, with the 2x6 end pieces in place, the exact center for the rough opening is marked. The presenter advises using a speed square to transfer the center mark vertically onto the side of the 2x6s, creating guide marks for the placement of the long side pieces. This ensures the ladder will be centered and aligned correctly. Each long side of the rough opening will consist of two 2x6s side-by-side, doubled for structural integrity.
