Begin by applying double-sided carpet tape to each stair tread. As shown in the video, two parallel strips of tape are typically applied: one strip along the back edge of the tread, where it meets the riser, and another strip a few inches in from the front edge of the tread, positioned behind the nosing. This placement ensures secure adhesion across the main contact points of the runner. Leave the protective backing on the tape at this stage, as it allows for precise positioning of the runner without premature adhesion. Use scissors to cut the tape to the appropriate length for each tread.
