Prepare and Measure Stairs — Step 3: Measure Staircase Width (Side to Side)
Part of project
Stair Treads · Step 3 of 4
In this video
Before beginning the installation, ensure your work area and existing stairs are clean. Always start the installation process with the bottom stair and work your way up the staircase. Using a tape measure, carefully measure the overall width and height of each individual stair. Once measured, cut your 'Performance Accessory stair tread' to the correct depth, leaving an 1/8 inch space on the back side and a 1/16 inch gap on both sides of the tread. This precise cutting should be done for each individual stair to ensure a proper fit.
