Your Oak Valley Designs carpet stair treads are crafted for lasting beauty and safety, and hand-washing is the secret to their extended life. While they are indeed washable, they must *never* enter a washing machine. The intense cycles and high temperatures can irreparably damage our specialized adhesive backing, which is crucial for a secure, non-slip fit. This also prevents shrinkage and preserves the integrity of the fibers. When it's time for a more thorough clean, dilute a mild detergent in warm water and gently work it into the tread. For an occasional deep refresh, a carpet shampooer or hot-water extraction machine can be used with care, but always avoid oversaturating the treads. The key is to ensure they are never soaked, and always allowed to dry completely.
