Step 4 · Record, Double-Check, and Verify

Let's bring it all together. Carefully document the width and depth for each step. Many homes, especially older ones, have slight variations from step to step—this is completely normal! If you find any differences, simply label that step with a piece of masking tape and note its unique dimensions. Taking a quick photo of any unusual steps is also a great idea. Remember the old carpenter's rule: 'measure twice, cut once.' In our world, it's 'measure twice for a perfect fit!' While standard steps are often around 10–11 inches deep and 36–42 inches wide, your home is unique. Your precise measurements are what allow us to create treads that are truly custom-made to fit, ensuring safety and style for your family.
