Step 1 · Check the Circuit Breaker

Locate your kitchen's circuit breaker panel. Find the breaker controlling the garbage disposal (it may be labeled). If the breaker is tripped (in the 'off' position), carefully switch it back to the 'on' position. If it immediately trips again, there may be a short circuit; call a qualified electrician.
