What happens here

The excavator operator provides a detailed explanation of his stump removal technique. He emphasizes using the excavator's teeth to 'drag' through the soil as gently as possible. This method is designed to separate the stumps and roots from the dirt, minimizing the loss of valuable topsoil. He shows how the root ball, even from larger plants, can be cleanly extracted. He also highlights their strategy of preserving specific 'lolly pine' trees to provide shade and shelter for the future cattle, while removing less desirable 'poplar' trees due to their susceptibility to lightning strikes. This demonstrates a thoughtful approach to land management beyond mere clearing.

Goal: The operator explains the technique of 'dragging' the excavator teeth to extract stumps cleanly, preserving topsoil and selectively leaving certain trees.

shade for the cows uh and if we get into any spots that are just really marshy really really wet then we probably will avoid those spots and we'll leave those as areas for the cows to kind of have a little bit of shelter or shade i don't want to leave any poplar trees for our cows because it seems that poplar trees are uh what draws lightning around these parts so we're leaving these loblolly pines and that's a that's a loblolly pine that we had planted here uh around about i guess we're four years ago so that's a four-year-old little pine tree we planted up this land we clear-cut this land and we plant replanted it in pines just in case we decided to not go forward with uh clearing it for pasture but uh we're obviously moving forward and clearing it for past year for sure rocking and rolling and it looks like frank's getting much more comfortable working around me because he's about 10 feet from me back there what i'm doing and what you're seeing in drone footage and in ground footage here is just dragging the teeth as gently as i possibly can through the soil here on the ground to make sure that i've gotten all the stumps out of the ground and out of the way there's another one those little pine trees right there some of them are going to make it and some of them aren't but i try to try to pick my way through here and keep some of the best ones where the cows will have a little bit of shade that one right there ain't gonna make it so i'm getting ready to push it and the root structure on these is there's not much root structure as you can see it just kind of flipped right out of the ground we probably have a fist size little root ball on them at this point well you might see it in my eyes i'm
