What happens here
This video provides a comprehensive guide on how to choose the right work truck (gas vs. diesel) by understanding specific applications like towing, hauling, and snow plowing. It covers key considerations such as gear ratios, transmission, Gross Vehicle Weight Rating (GVWR), warranty implications of modifications, and the overall cost-benefit analysis of different engine types. The goal is to empower buyers to make informed decisions that match their truck's specifications to their intended use.

(19,711 characters)today we're gonna be talking about gassers versus diesels polling versus pushing in a truck even though it's a 1-ton it's a fufu truck there's a sales guy and there's a customer okay we're both you got a diesel they they got a Cummins diesel in it and they're like my truck and pull the teeth out of Satan's egg you know what no it does not necessarily mean that because you're gonna be limited by your gear ratio and and your transmission and those are the parts that are gonna be failing before your engine fails in this case more importantly than should I get a gas or so to get a diesel its spec you know what you're doing what are you doing what the truck well this Rams a piece of crap I've blown three transmissions in it no no it's not a piece of crap you got the wrong truck or this Ford's a piece of crap I can't get the brakes last 120 thousand miles well the Ford night piece of crap you got the wrong cover so as soon as they see you have a snow plow on it if you don't have the snow plow prep package on it your warranty is void got in the water and they will look to see if the mount kit you can pull that snow plow off but they will look to see if that mounting kit is on there and there's can't or the paint's missing off the frame where it gets me okay stupid service knows all all the tricks you go ahead and reprogram your turbo diesel to put out with 1200 foot-pounds of torque 450 horse so you can run 10 second quarter mile and then all sudden you get a trainee issue you on program all that guess what that's in the memory of the computer you can see [Applause] [Music] [Applause] alright guys I'm with Mike Mike how you doing today are you alright for guys that don't know who Mike is Mike you are the commercial Sales Manager for fury motors commercial truck sales right but he doesn't just sell trucks your job is to oversee all this but in your off time you also build baja race trucks you start you build them from scratch right from the ground up you like the racing series okay so you've got a lot of experience with trucks and the reason I'm in here right now is because a lot of guys are buying a truck maybe they got to buy a four to dodge a Chevy I don't care what the brand is one guy buys a truck and he has an amazing experience with it and loves it the next guy buys a the same kind of truck and he hates it and wants to get rid of it as soon as he possibly can and what you and I are going to do today is try to clarify what's happening that makes that occur there's a sales guy and there's a customer okay we're both idiots okay sales guys are idiots the customer is the idiot they're idiots because they don't do their homework okay we're idiots because we don't do our homework and know our product okay what happens a lot of times is a guy comes in I need a truck I get a bowl camper oh great let me show you this HAP song and then it pulls 8,000 homes well a guy doesn't know his camper we talk all the time he comes in six months later my brakes are small I hate this drunk train he's slipping what's going on well sir you didn't buy the Ray chopper well what do you mean it in by the red truck you didn't spec out your camper he didn't spec out your truck you purchase wrong vehicle we purchased the wrong vehicle okay that happens all the time you have to know what you're doing with your truck we have to know what truck we're supposed to sell so that's an important thing because it's not up to its kind of it's a two-way street right it's up to us as the consumer to have an idea of what we want but you guys are the pros you guys are the ones that should say oh you know here's your you guys need to discover what the application that they're going to be using it is and then spec out the right gear ratio spec out the right engines because today we're gonna be talking about gassers versus diesels polling versus pushing in a truck because us guys were doing both when I say pulling and pushing you're gonna buy a truck for two reasons Mike you're gonna push snow with it are you gonna pull a trailer with it if it's a work truck correct right any for personal people they do the same thing there's guys out there that want to plow their own driveway they may have a long driveway at home that's quarter mile long and they got six cabins up north that you got to deal with on the weekends so it's important that don't care if your mom and pop and have one truck look at or if you're a fleet and have 40 trucks you gotta make sure you get the right truck to do the right job okay so what are we gonna be looking at this is a one-ton Cummins diesel 8 foot box single rear wheel this is set up to pull camper this is not a work truck this is a fufu truck you're gonna go out and get your 28-foot camper you and your money if we're gonna head up down the highway you're gonna have a good time Oh phoo phoo truck okay what is the foo food truck me how do you have the Specht all your creature comforts this is not a workday this is whether he'd see it's cooled seats 12 inch touchscreen this is set up to be comfortable this is not a word truck okay but it's got it it's got a diesel engine in it so some guys are gonna say well this is gonna be able to do everything I need it to do correct but it's got 342 gears okay you're only pulling 16,000 phones even though it's got a decent everything is one of my diesel pole you know thirty thousand pounds well that's a misconception right everybody they got a diesel they they got a Cummins diesel in it and they're like my truck and pull the teeth out of Satan's egg you know what no it does not necessarily mean that because you're gonna be limited by your gear ratio and and your transmission and those are the parts that are gonna be failing before your engine fails in this case am i right right okay so this this fufu truck even though it's a one-ton it's a fufu truck you got a fifth wheel package it comes standard from the factory mr. and mrs. Smith's gonna hook up their fifth wheel camper they know it weighs fourteen fifteen thousand pounds with their cats their dogs their beer their coolers or food you can have it on the road and be totally comfortable okay so we're on the topic of what are we gonna spec out differently to make this one ton a hardcore work truck and what kind of work would it then be specked out for so if the customer comes to me and they say hey Mike I'm hauling a bobcat I got six attachments at at all I got food trees they do landscaping I haul a 30-foot gooseneck yep we're gonna go with the one-ton dually almost diesel nice and transmission maybe a 410 rear gear possibly a 342 depends what kind of what are you what are the gear options that you have in in Dodge at least because this is gonna be different for Chevy and Ford and guys we're not limiting this to Dodge we're just helping guys spec out the absolutely right truck so they can avoid failures period yeah I want to clarify one thing for Chevy GMC Ram they'll make good trucks yep it's us as a sales guy or you as a consumer that screwed things up a console okay happens all the time right I get guys in here there I hate my Chevy it's got brakes or garbage on it well you're hauling an 18 foot trailer with the Bobcat and a half-ton truck yep and I'm like your brakes are gonna be smoked your trailer brakes don't work does he ain't got a wire it up right I mean you're gonna blow your brakes off y'all gotta use common sense as a consumer and we have to use common sense as a salesperson okay so it's specking more importantly than should I get a gas or so to get a diesel its pecking out what you're doing what are you doing with the truck kind of toy do you need to pick up your wife and six cats from the vet you don't need a one-ton dually for that do you know and get way of that done right right do you need a 2500 to haul a Bobcat probably get by with that but I don't know what you're doing maybe you want a diesel are you pushing small are you commercial how many square feet do you fall here these are all very many miles do you tow a year what are you towing are you towing long distances down the road or you do an inner city towing if you're a landscaper or a contractor working inside of a city it's gonna be a lot of stop and go I'm gonna guess you can expect that truck out differently than the guy that's gonna go on the road and he's gonna go just cruise down from here to California and back so run me through the ultimate work truck the best combo not I'm not talking out leather when I say ultimate Mike I don't want the bells and whistles I want to know what the gear ratio is what the transmission what the engine is for the landscape contractor working inside the city is going to be pulling and pushing doing a lot of hardcore work with this thing he's buying it for one purpose but to make money questions I could put you in 5500 with 488 gears the Cummins Ising you're gonna pull 30,000 Paul you're gonna haul 10,000 balls okay but then you're gonna get in do T issues you're gonna tell me well I don't have a class a license well then you better check your lease involved so once you get over 26,000 pounds in any vehicle or combination of vehicles then you need a class a license 9600 one have fun and then once you hit over 10,000 pounds gross vehicle weight not empty weight what the vehicle is capable of doing you're gonna be stuck you're gonna be set to CDL regulations meaning you've got to have a fire extinguisher you got to have safety triangles a health certificate yep right and so when we look at the truck we still I still want you to spec out the different trucks for us Mike can you do that inside this video let's go over here for a sec okay yep okay you manufacture princess up okay what is this this is a Ford this is a Chevrolet and this is a ram okay this gives you your G brw your payload your max trailer total rating you can go into any dealership as a consumer and get all this information so you properly spec out your truck okay and you get and you have it for every manufacturer even though you were kid died you have it for everybody else yeah oh this is all available to the public as well so the public can do their homework also so don't blindly just follow along with what your salesperson says so I come in I'm gonna be plowing snow hauling a trailer skid loader maybe Holland a dump a dump trailer what truck do I need gas or diesel you can get away with the gas or it's fork-tender gear 64 Hemi 3/4 told me no problem and you want a snow plow package on the front of it right for sure absolutely you don't have a small fall craft group any Ford Chevy or Ram you ain't get a warranty you blow your transmission over 30,000 miles later sorry it's on you'll expect off the right truck so as soon as they see you have a snow plow on it if you don't have the snow plow prep package on it your warranty is void got in the water and they will look to see if the mount kit you can pull that snow plow off but they will look to see if that mounting kit is on there and there's Cantore the paint's missing off the frame where it gets me okay stupid service knows all all the tricks you go ahead and reprogram your turbo diesel to put out a twelve hundred foot-pounds of torque 450 horse so you can run ten second quarter mile and then all sudden you got a training issue you on program all that guess what that's in the memory of the you can see that ah dude so you chip it and then you try to unzip it and it doesn't work because they lock it into the memory yeah they build trucks cars motorcycles four-wheelers I don't care what it is for a specific purpose okay and us as consumers need to follow so you said we could get by with a gasser even though we're plowing where you know we're do an inner city hauling we're hauling a dump trailer when do we need to bump up to a diesel let's say you're gotta do some a tri-axial gooseneck 32 feet long okay all on your skid steer all on your mini dozer you're pushing 22,000 paws yep yep that's when you're gonna step into a 1 tonne duty diesel Europe mr. and mrs. Smith she just retired you bought a 42-foot 5th wheel tri-axial camper with 17 slide outs 14 couches you're gonna have your 9 dogs in there and all your beer and coolers and waters you're gonna be pushing 23,000 pounds that's right if you want diesel guys need to make the right decision what am I doing with my job okay and then us the sales guy is not gonna be knuckleheads we need to make sure we pull the right specs on a truck so what we're selling you the right truck so you don't come to the manufacturer and say well this Rams a piece of crap I've blown three transmissions in it well no it's not a piece of crap we got the wrong truck or this Ford's a piece of crap I can't get the brakes last 120 thousand miles well the Forge might be scrapped you got the wrong color how do you get how do you when you hook up with somebody how do you know you're hooking up with the right person to help you make that decision because these guys will go I know what I'm gonna do with the truck but I don't know what gear ratio I need you know when do you so what are the gear right we've never did you never did answer what are the gear ratios the dodge offers cuz I know we don't do a321 gear or 392 gear 373 gear 410 gear 488 gear and it depends on the halftime 3/4 ton want on you know there's different trim levels there's so many factors that go into it I can ramble off technical information until we're blue in the face well I want something that these guys can that I'm trying to put my mind my head into the mind of a guy that really isn't a truck guy but he has to go out and work and he just want some guidelines what gear ratios should he look for and can you give us some typical applications and again guys this is going to vary so don't lock us in this is just a guideline to help you over if you say you want to start a small business for example and you got a limited budget we have a tradesmen package truck that you can do a regular cab which I recommend for plowing anyway yeah some guys wanted coot cab so they can haul their kids around or under the cabin or whatever which is fine but run a regular cab get a 410 rear gear get a 6 for gas you don't have all the maintenance the fuel cost the initial charge for a diesel engine all few manufacturers are aron tangram $20,000 $10,000 how much feel can you put in your truck for $10,000 and if you're sitting there idling at job sites waiting for that fourth inch of snow to come your DFT's going down it's just a headache it's a neighbor some guys like the diesel because you're doing commercial lots or running all over the Metro and they never shut your trucks off they also liked a diesel for the initial weight for the spring snow on it's heavier so if you're running a nine foot be fall boss or fishery or Western whatever you prefer yeah that's a little bit heavier of Apollo they will also want the diesel for the torch to follow everybody has their own taste I'm sure you run a small business have your own test what's important to you so what I found with a plow truck specifically mike is that the engine is typically the last thing to go by the time stuff is going it's the linkage underneath because it's been exposed to the elements for four or five years and salt and corrosion and the back and forth I don't even have problems with transmissions it's the entire undercarriage of the truck just starts to crap out on me and it's like why am i spending 10 grand on an engine when the cheaper engine will still push them out of snow will still pull the same trailer and get the same done do the same job but now I get to put 10 grand in my pocket and I'm not saving that in fuel never have experienced if you'll save in fact I've lived through the time when diesel fuel will cost way more than gas and it was that was when I had just bought like four or five diesel trucks in one year and I'm like I'm gonna save all this money in and I'm like oh my god oh just like horrible and there's really I don't find that there is a change in fuel economy as well so I maybe have been the most unlucky person on the face of the planet but every single diesel truck that I've ran when I work it will get me 12 to 14 miles per gallon my gas or trucks every single one of them will get me 10 to 11 maybe 12 when I'm working them so I'm saving a whole whopping a couple miles per gallon I'm scared pocketbook none no what's the way that ten grand for the depth charge for the diesel yup and you're paying on average 50 cents more a gallon for the fuel exactly does it make sense right no it doesn't go to your dealership ask for a commercial manager go to your dealership ask for so many deals with fleet if they're most of them are educated most dealerships I good care if it's forward or Chevy or wherever you like Ram they will build a healthy purchase a vehicle we're not all snakes we're not all here to go with you we're here to help you I will literally run into Michigan for you know he ran to Illinois first yeah it was an Indiana first yeah he ran to Indiana then to upper our mid mid part of Michigan for me do you guys haven't seen that video you've got to check you know that's where I initially met Mike and that's where I knew I was dealing with the right person because I ran you through the wringer dude I was not nice in the beginning was I know here's a prime example you ran into one of my co-workers first yes he got in way over his head I got involved in December that that crap show started in November right yes a late October frame I think it was October yes you needed a tax write-off you wanted a truck it's pretty simple process I need a plow truck give me a poet rock I didn't get involved until late or mid-december and all some of you guys all kinds of issues are like look and I don't know useful me next chemistry yeah alright okay take care of it not a big deal yep like done yeah everything worked out good it was awesome but the most amazing truck buying experience and just fitting mics with a great guy period and I hope you know I think we're gonna have to wrap this one up Mike alright so you you guys tell me what you think of this video I had to con mic into doing this not a video guy no he did not want it you guys I had to come in here and I was on I went on Instagram stories live and I put the camera in his face and I said Mike will you please film this video with me because I'd already talked to him a couple times and he's like nah you don't want me I'm like no I don't want anybody else because you've got experience with building trucks actual hands-on building trucks you've got experience specking trucks out for commercial guys and I actually trust you so who else am I gonna talk to I've never had that experience before so think big thanks to Mike panino caller thank you alright fury motors guys so I'm in South st. Paul on my fury motors they're not sponsoring this he was the most qualified person I could find he's just taking his time out to help us out that's all I gotta say about that so thank you very very much Mike and you guys tell me what you think of it down below comment your experiences with trucks want to hear from it because this is your experiences are amazing because there's gonna be guys all across the board love them hate them oh I guarantee they're gonna have guys barking about Rams parking both Chevy's working both forwards and like I said earlier the manufacturer to make a good truck it's a weave the consumer lets me think of multi-seat dealer and check out the video I got here and another video that I'm going to put up here god bless you guys and go get them I will see you next time
