What happens here

Once the main joists and beams are in place and aligned, blocking is installed. These are short sections of joist material cut to fit snugly and precisely between adjacent joists. They are typically staggered or installed in a straight line (depending on local building codes and design) and fastened at regular intervals to prevent the joists from twisting, bowing, or suffering from lateral movement over time. This process significantly increases the rigidity and stability of the entire deck frame, helping to distribute loads evenly and creating a more robust structure that will last longer. The video shows workers installing these blocks, ensuring they are properly fitted and securely fastened to the joists using a nail gun.

Goal: Short pieces of lumber, known as blocking, are installed between the joists to provide lateral stability, prevent twisting, and create strong points for future deck board attachment.
