Welding isn’t something you usually see on our jobsites, but there’s a first for everything! #patio

What happens here

The video shows a worker, wearing a welding helmet and protective gloves, performing stick welding (SMAW) on rebar sections. The rebar is laid out within a wooden formwork, indicating the structure will be filled with concrete. The worker uses an electrode to create an arc, melting the metal and fusing the rebar connections. A ground clamp is attached to the rebar to complete the electrical circuit. This welding process creates strong, permanent bonds between the rebar pieces, which are essential for the structural integrity of the reinforced concrete element. Sparks and welding fumes are visible during the operation.

Goal: Create durable and strong welded joints between rebar sections.

Tools and materials

  • Electrode/Welding Rod — Creating the electrical arc and providing filler metal for the weld joint
  • Ground Clamp — Completing the electrical circuit for the welding process
  • Protective Clothing — Protecting the body from sparks, heat, and UV radiation
  • Rebar — Providing tensile strength to the concrete structure
  • Safety Glasses — Additional eye protection worn under the welding helmet or during other tasks around the site
  • Welding Gloves Nomex — Protecting hands from heat, sparks, and UV radiation during welding
  • Welding Helmet Landstar — Protecting the eyes and face from intense light (arc flash), heat, and sparks
  • Welding Machine — Supplying power for the welding arc, specifically a Stick Welder (SMAW) is implied
  • Wooden Formwork — Shaping the concrete structure and holding the rebar in position prior to concrete pour
