[Music] What's going on everybody? Welcome back to our beautiful construction channel about deck building. Uh you want to stay tuned and watch us build this this beautiful structure. We're going to get into some tips and tricks about rafter layout, which we get a lot of questions about. So stay tuned. You're going to have rafter layout. You're going to have babies being born. It's you know what what aren't you going to have in this vlog? So make sure to stay tuned. Let's get into it. >> Well, I'm back. Couple false alarms. The baby baby's not here yet. So, kind of just on standby and trying to get everything set up. We got electrician, plumber we need to coordinate with also roofer. Aunt, what do you think? What >> shingles? What should I What should I tell them? Figure Wednesday maybe or Thursday. >> Thursday. >> Thursday. Okay. All ants calculations here for our our rafters. heights, all that kind of stuff. So, our goal is to get this thing roofed, sheathed, all of that, shingled before the end of next week, and then we'll have essentially an entire following week open for plumber, electrician to get in here, get all of our roughs done while we jump on the patio retaining wall here. So, I think we're in pretty good shape here. And I mean, they're they're moving super quick. So, getting all this stuff figured out, pre-cutting all of our rafters, it's going to be perfect to keep this thing moving and keep us on schedule, even with a baby on the way. And the following week, ants on vacation. So, let's get this planned and keep it rolling. [Music] getting prepped up here. Everything's going really smooth so far. Tell you what, the one nice thing, we recently got two 20ft picks and most of our roof structures are 20 by 20. It's like the most common size and just having a pick that can span that whole way makes it so much easier. So, >> How we looking at? >> We're looking. Looks like you're on like the last couple last couple rafters cutting in those. >> Oh, yeah. That's it. >> Sweet. Remember that one time? Remember that one time I notched all these out and they weren't quite deep enough? >> Yeah. [Music] >> All right. There you go. So, this is going to go for our last rafter, and we can notch that in for our fly rafter that's going to overhang. And we should have it uh we're going to start running these pretty soon. Should have a roof here shortly. Still on baby watch. Just waiting. Thought she'd be here by now, but she's not. So, I had everything planned out. So, I thought I was going to be out this week completely, but still waiting on the baby. So, they're good to go. They got everything. They They planned out everything as if I wasn't going to be here. So, they're good to go. They don't really need me here. They're going to frame up this roof. And we're going to get it shingled by the end of the week and then start working on some retaining wall stuff so that we can get the plumbers and electricians in here next week and tie up everything within the frame. So, we'll be working out here. They can work in there and keep it moving. So, after that, we can roll right into decking, get our inspections, and keep this thing moving. But so far, so good. Everything's going smooth, and we've been here less than 2 weeks, and we'll have a roof up here by the end of the week. So, all good. All good stuff. The red one. >> Oh, yeah. Yeah, the red one. Just don't blow the circuit. >> Two compressors. >> Yep. >> Yeah. We'll see. Two songs will >> y two compressors going today. Double time. Nick, tell us about that uh thing that you saw last night. Oh, I went to Longwood Gardens and they had a fountain show with lights and fire and music going to it. It was pretty amazing. >> And they had a fountain where water was coming up. There was flame at the top of the water. >> We'll put the video in here. >> I don't know how it >> I don't understand how that's possible, but >> they did it. >> It's pretty cool. >> Took them millions of dollars to do it, but they did it. When you first showed it to me, I'm like, I guess there's just like a flame up high and then I'm shooting water around it. That makes sense. That's okay. I can see that. But no, it's like a fountain >> and the flame goes up and down with the water. >> Sitting there watching it trying to think, how the heck do they do that? >> Long Gardens is pretty cool. If you're in uh the tri-state area, uh definitely check it out. But it's a testament that if you got enough money, you can do pretty much anything. >> Yeah. I'd probably do something else with it. >> I mean, I would I would get lost in all that land that he's got. There's just so much. And it's all set up all different ways. Like we didn't even look at like half of the stuff that was there cuz like you walk through the woods. >> Yeah. >> Like they have a wooded trail like all wood like But that's It goes all the way out like onto the other side of the property. >> Yeah. >> It's like 90° out. Sorry. I'm not trying to not trying to do that. >> Yeah. It's pretty crazy. All from the Dupant family. They got lots of money. So, uh, Long Gardens is pretty crazy. But maybe we'll have to try that. A, uh, water feature shoots flames out of it. [Music] Heat. Heat. N. [Music] Find a way. [Music] Raptors are up. We got our fasc. So now getting it sheathed and first thing mark out our rafter layout on each sheet. So just marking our 16s on here and that way when we go to lay our sheathing we can make sure that the center of our rafters are maintaining that layout. So uh something we like to do if you're using OSB it's usually uh has marks on it already but we like to use plywood for our roof just a little bit more sturdy and uh that's what we prefer. So, get this up. Looking good, though. And here with our window, we maxed out at a 312 pitch. So, normally we like to shoot for something that's a little bit steeper than that, but uh had our roofer here yesterday and we are going to ice and water shield the whole thing just cuz we have a slightly less than ideal pitch. Um, four is what we shoot for at least. But, uh, with the window, our beams are already kind of as low as as we would want them. So, that's what we got going on. We'll ice and water shield the entire thing and be good to go. Any words of wisdom for us, a >> um, no. >> I mean, laying out the line just makes life easier. sheathen go. Next thing we got to do too here along our last rafter at the house, there's no sheathing on the house. It's just insulation board and then the siding. So, uh, we need to find our stud layout in the wall and then we're going to lag into each stud, uh, our rafter there because also our post, we like to get something that goes into the house there just to kind of stabilize it a little bit. But right here, there is no stud behind that. So, we want to make sure that our rafters at the house are lagged in. We'll do two lags at each stud location so it's locked in for justice. Where's Nicholas say? >> For justice. >> So, let's go. As I've said, our goal this week, get this thing shingled, get that all tied up, and next week get into hardcaping when I'm going to be mostly not here. All right, so essentially, we have flush with this outside point of the pool. retaining wall. You can just say right there at that joint. Yeah. Just so like our cap doesn't, you know, we don't have like a 1 in sliver that goes all the way down there. You know what I mean? So yeah, over here. And let's see. So, what I want to do with with this here is our our drainage, which is connected is going to be connected to three down spouts. >> Yep. >> Right here, we're going to need to put a 45 on it, have it go a little bit lower um below our base material and then flatten out uh well, you know, still be pitched over there to our popup. Um, but here we're going to do uh a perforated pipe. So, we already have a pipe here. >> From here to the pop-up is >> perforated. So, we'll dig out a trench. We'll have like 6 in uh well like 4 in of stone below the pipe. The holes will be on the side of that pipe and we will have to ensconce it in uh a filter fabric because what I want is for >> 45 from here down 6 in perforated pipe >> down 6 in below our base. So we'll get to we'll get to base height. Yeah. Um what I want to do here is have our patio pitch away from the pool. So you know we'll still have a permeable joint material. So anything that goes in there is still coming this way and everything that runs off the top is going to kind of die here and it will go into this drain which is hidden underground and exit over there. So that's the idea there. Um >> how much of a pitch do you want on the patio? >> On the patio. Uh well, we're just going to go with 18 in down from here is our finished grade. >> 18 in down from top of deck >> from Yeah. finished deck. The real determination here of just how much space we want is I think 3 ft is enough space in front of this. Do you think they want to maximize this? Cuz this area right here is kind of dead. You know, we're going to have a wall here, retaining wall. It's going to be 18 in to probably about 2 ft off the ground here. And we're going to do a railing on top of it. So, they used to have steps that led down to here, but it's useless. So, we're going to have a railing on top of that retaining wall. We'll do 3 ft in front of this roughly. So, I think that puts us at about 8 and 1/2 ft from the house. So, yeah, right around our pipe. Our pipe's basically going to be kind of right underneath of our wall. And uh Sound good? >> Yep. What? >> I don't know. It looks like you're like on like a college campus tour or something. You're writing down notes. >> You expect me to remember everything you just said? >> No, I think it's I think it's great. Just, you know, prepared with the binder. I love it. Just making an operation. >> Just professional. All right. >> All right. >> We weren't a professional operation around here. >> All right. Yeah, sometimes that's pretty much the idea. And we are going to have it come here. It's going to go trace this, trace this, trace this, and go all the way down to that corner so we can create that grade change. >> Got it. >> Got it. >> Go team. >> Just kidding. Just kidding. Just kidding. [Music] >> Sean, how you feeling? You're about to leave to go have a baby. I feel like, you know, I can't believe I'm going to have a baby now. I feel great. I feel good, ready. Uh, I got the easy part. I seem to be the support person, and I know the job site's in good hands. So, thank you guys. You guys are the real heroes. >> All right, so now that Sean is out, you got us hosting, I guess. Let's go see what Tony's doing. How you making out? >> Good. We posted a clip of him installing these before and a lot of people asked, "Why are you doing that? How are you going to get the sheathing attached to the rafter now?" But if you'll notice, they're offset. Put the plywood on it. We can still tail into this. So, it's not heating it at all. Good to go. [Music] [Applause] Nick, you were getting a new roof yesterday. We're getting a roof here. Are you going to tell them what to do? >> No. Now that you're an experienced roofing guy. >> No, I didn't I didn't go outside the house yesterday. >> You didn't go out and help them at all? >> No. >> Tell them what to do stuff. >> No, I was people work at my house or whatever. I let them do their thing. Yep. >> I don't want to be over their shoulder. I none of that. Just let them do it. I'm not trying to be in my house. [Music] What do you got going on? >> Uh, well, I just had to run and get the screw. So, I'm going to try to figure out what hop on. So, I'm thinking if he's doing that wall, maybe I do that wall because he's building these steps. So, Are you okay? [Music] [Applause] [Music] All right. So, now we're done the roof. We got everything up. We got everything shingled. It looks awesome. The roofers do such a nice job. So, that's really it for this vlog. Well, before I close it out, let's show you what we're going to get into uh for this next video. So, we're going to go down there. But hang on. Let's get closer. I'll show you. All right. So, let's check it out over here. We're going to work on this retaining wall. We're going to show you how we did that and set this whole base because this is a this is a pretty big patio. And we have a couple of things to work around, including the pool, which is a different it's pitched away and it's kind of a compound pitch. So, we got to work around that. Get these retaining walls in. and uh we'll show you all what the whole process is going to be. So stay tuned, hit like, hit subscribe, do all the things, show all the love, and uh maybe tell Sean congratulations in the comments cuz now he has a new little baby girl. So show him some love as well. And uh >> what does Sean say every time when he's done for every video ever that I can't remember? >> Until next time. And until next time, this has been Premier Outdoor Living.
