This video details Sascho's innovative Flex Tint system, designed to address the challenges of exterior stain application, especially for log homes in remote areas. It explains how this system, using caulk-gun cartridges, ensures consistent color, reduces waste, and offers flexibility for on-site tinting, solving common problems faced by contractors.

(5,788 characters)all right today I'm here with Jim again from sashko senior chemist and we are talking log homes and we're talking treaty log homes staining log homes clear coating log homes um all the chemistry the science behind it uh today we got a really cool topic and um something I'm fascinated with and one of the struggles as a contractor uh stating log homes usually log homes are way out in the mountains somewhere often like a remote location somewhere paid store could be two hours away it could be 200 miles away and what happens if you run out of pain now you've got to travel all the way back to the paint store and so get more paint more stain we're talking about but I think you guys have come up sasco has come up with a system um in a process where you can stain or tint your own stains um and it's uh cat captured Cascade tentable stains is that what it is that's right all right so it tells about that Jim it's a tintable program for our capture stain and that's on our water-based side but we also have it for the solvent Bayside for the transformation log and Timber so we have two different uh Flex tint programs right but uh the the gist of it is uh that we've recognize that problem you can be hours away from the nearest store and if you run out it's a problem at the same time if you um go to a home way out there and you think that you're putting on this thing but you're prepped was such that it turns out a little darker because it's more textured now you want to change colors again and it's hours back and you lose a day easy yeah easy so that's always been a problem um and so we wanted to solve that problem by offering a tint program uh that's also a good solution for dealers because maybe you get to that dealer but he doesn't have that color right right then he's got to order it well that's more days right right so by going to it a tint system and doing it the right way a different way we get down to a system where we can actually give you guys the colors you need when you need it in the quantity that you need and give you the ability to change on the fly so the heart of it comes down to the old methods right you've seen the old tint containers right like a can right we pop the cut the lid off when you dump it into the stain bucket did it all get out I don't know I gotta sit and work it around did some settle on the bottom yeah and I gotta scrape it how are you gonna be consistent with your color that's the old way right so we went from that to bottles the bottles have got to be better right right so we'll try to shake it up and get the subtle colorant off the bottom dump that in right right did you get it in I don't know suck it up try to get some more Out Shake It Up what a mess yeah and it's amazing just to be honest right so when we looked at this problem we said all right we want to do it a different way we're going to do it this Asheville way we want to be um giving you guys a solution to that problem and make it as easy as possible so um we have a flex tint program which which does that we've taken the colorants in here and we've taken them up to the point where they are not going to settle out anymore so no more having to shake the bottle whatever else and we put it into a caulking cartridge yeah right which means all we do is we can throw it into a caulking gun and use it and take it the all the way to the end extruding out all the material to a positive stop right that means you got out everything you can get out you don't have to sit and rinse and whatever else you get it all out in one shot to a agreeable endpoint we put a little extra in there to account for the stuff that's still left in the Duke right and so um this system can you it says Sequoia so that's apparently a color if you wanted to match that exact color you would put that entire tube into a five gallon or a gallon can you use less to create your own colors or is this a system to only create specific color that this is a system that's designed for just one five gallon pail um some people do put more in if their color is maybe too light right maybe you come down and you're you're looking at it and you say ah that color is a little too light for my tastes right or for the customer at the last minute you know what I'll throw another tube okay you can do that pretty well as long as you stay to one tube right um or one tube increments of colorant you're going to be able to be repeatable between pants right if you go to the half tube thing yeah yeah are we necessarily repeatable pale to pale maybe not so you might run into some color differences there and if you're doing if you're doing a 55 gallon drum great right I think that that's an important note is be repeatable so you want to be able to um be consistent be able to create another five the exact same color I do see where this system could be really beneficial and that's where I mean I think at one point in time I had a storage facility that had over fifty thousand dollars worth of leftover paint from job sites that you keep storing here you only mix what you need so I'm driving um 200 miles to a location remote location I can buy I believe it's the tent base and if I bought extra say I get 10 20 gallons extra I can take that 10 base not 10 dip moving to the next job site and whatever that's exactly it that is exactly it and so our contractors who have really embraced this idea they simply have a library yeah a flex team and then they buy the base that they think that they need and maybe a little extra but extra clear tin face that right I'll go on the next job that's absolutely incredible Flex tense something you should look into if you're in the log home you know stating this um staining or clear coating business um sashico's Flex 10. foreign [Music] [Applause]
