This is such a cool project for us because we are updating a deck that we built back in 2020!!

What happens here

After the demolition is complete, the site is prepared for the new deck's construction. This involves laying out the new footprint, which appears significantly larger and incorporates multiple levels. New pressure-treated lumber is cut to size using a circular saw and assembled to form the new deck's substructure, including beams and joists. Workers use drills/drivers to fasten these structural components together. New composite decking boards are then installed onto this freshly built frame, likely using hidden fastening systems or specialized decking screws.

Goal: Construct the new, multi-level deck's wooden frame and begin installing new decking boards.

Tools and materials

  • Chalk Line — Marking straight lines for cuts and board placement
  • Circular Saw DeWalt — Cutting lumber for joists, beams, and decking
  • Cordless Drill/Driver DeWalt — Driving screws to assemble the frame and fasten decking
  • Hearing Protection — Protecting ears from loud power tool noise
  • Level — Ensuring all structural components are plumb and level
  • Measuring Tape — Accurately measuring lumber for cuts and layout
  • Safety Glasses — Protecting eyes from wood chips and debris
  • Work Gloves — Protecting hands
  • Composite Decking Boards — The visible surface of the new deck
  • Decking Screws — Fastening decking boards and structural lumber
  • Pressure-Treated Lumber — Building the deck's substructure (joists, beams)
