What happens here
The setup is reconfigured to test the composite decking spanning 12 inches on-center. Similar to the previous step, the hydraulic jack is positioned at the mid-span of the decking. The presenter operates the hand pump to apply upward pressure, and the pressure gauge registers the increasing load. The decking shows significant deflection as force is applied, eventually breaking when the gauge reaches 2 tons.
Goal: Measure the load-bearing capacity of composite decking when framed at 12 inches on-center.
Tools and materials
- Hydraulic Jack β Applying controlled upward force to the composite decking
- Pressure Gauge β Measuring the force exerted by the hydraulic jack
- Safety Glasses β Protecting eyes from debris during material failure
- Wooden Test Frame N/A β Supporting the composite decking at 12-inch on-center spacing
- Composite Decking β The material under test for this configuration
