What happens here

Once the pavers are laid and the joints are filled with sand, it's time for the final compaction. Use a plate compactor (with a protective pad attached to its base to prevent scuffing or chipping the paver surface) to vibrate the entire paved area. This process settles the pavers firmly into the sand bedding and forces the joint sand deeper into the crevices, interlocking the entire system for maximum stability. If polymeric sand was used, lightly mist the entire surface with water using a garden hose with a fine spray nozzle to activate its binding agents, allowing it to harden and lock the pavers together. Once dry, for enhanced durability, stain protection, and color vibrancy, a paver sealer can optionally be applied using a roller or sprayer.

Goal: Lock the pavers in place, stabilize the surface, and enhance durability

Tools and materials

  • Paver Sealer Techniseal — Protecting pavers from stains, UV damage, and enhancing their color
  • Plate Compactor Wacker Neuson — Final compaction of the laid pavers and joint sand
  • Protective Pad — Preventing scuffing or chipping the paver surface during compaction
  • Roller or Sprayer Graco — Even application of paver sealer
