What happens here
After the aggregate base is firmly compacted, a uniform layer of bedding sand (often screed sand or concrete sand) is spread over the entire area. This sand layer is crucial for providing a smooth, precise surface for the pavers and allows for slight adjustments. The pavers are then carefully laid according to the chosen pattern. The video visually demonstrates a complex design featuring a curving central path made of dark gray pavers, bordered by lighter gray and tan pavers for the main patio area and edging. This step requires meticulous placement to maintain consistent joint lines, ensure the pattern flows correctly (especially for curved sections), and involves cutting pavers to fit edges, borders, and intricate curves. A rubber mallet is typically used to gently tap pavers into place.
Goal: Lay the pavers in the desired pattern on the prepared base.
