The Monte Carlo is BACK! LSA Powered and Fresh Paint...Does it Even Run? (1972 First Gen Monte)

your yours leaks a little bit a little bit everywhere it leaves a mark everywhere it goes it wouldn't be mine if it didn't [Laughter] so i just drove 1276 miles from dallas to pittsburgh in the last four hours or so were in the snow i didn't stop to sleep or anything this is like my new personal record for like a non-stop drive by myself which is the only reason i did that just because i wanted to do something different and this drive really wasn't that interesting to begin with so i'm like screw it i'm just gonna cannonball it that way i got something to work for why am i here i'm here to get the monte carlo it's done at the body shop like i mentioned in my previous video that's why i brought john's a closed trailer because i don't want to have my freshly painted car all up in this crap didn't occur to me that like i'll just unhook the trailer before i head back to the house everything's frozen but i got it like halfway unhooked so it's easier to figure out how to get it off than it is to like freaking screw with it and put it back on just to park it in front of the house and then have to come do this later so i'm just gonna get it done now i haven't been able to do this in a very long time like two years so i'm gonna slide around a little bit because i want to we just rip in all right time for bed go that's a couple days later i got the trailer hooked up i'm about to go down to get some dangers and pick up the monte carlo but first i gotta get my dad because he wants to go with me so i guess you guys are gonna get to meet my dad i have no idea what he's gonna do he's never been on camera before he hasn't ever really come to stuff like this with me so we are in for a surprise for two ways one how awesome is this car gonna be two who the heck is this guy's dad so let's get to it body shop here guess automotive a friend of mine i have not seen the car yet i don't know what to expect here what do you think it's gonna look like black oh that's a good observation it's in that in there somewhere i think it's right behind the green car so i just had to go to the bathroom and i had to walk like right by the door where the car is and i wouldn't look at it not gonna look at it it's right over there you guys are gonna see it but i'm not gonna look at it there it is i can't see it but you can i'm going to wait until i can actually look at it to look at it but did you do a lot of the like the painting on it yeah i did all the painting on it oh really yeah wow this should look a little looks awesome this is way too nice to be my car that's cool what is some other stuff like uh filling like the badge holes and painting that trim and you fixed this back here because this was like all how bad was that so this was all this is all rusted here down the holes and then we braised those up and then finished it off and then while the window was out we went around the whole edge because there was some rust starting down inside there so we cleaned all that up as well yeah deep badges so you throw it in holes here and then it these have that emblem up there as well filled those holes in for you and then the front hood which had the dam joint from the accent but we took the monte carlo back off the front as well it looks way cleaner without that chrome thing on there is it enamel or lacquer it's a single stage so it's a okay there we go we put a really thin coat of primer on there we'll let that dry with our handy dandy rumor damn it don't have all your supplies a toilet paper and paper towels and kleenex sitting next to your stuff i saw that pile leaning before i'm like i should fix that but it might have fallen over when i did it good thing i don't have paint on there and i think i kept it from hitting my freshly primed thing just single stage black yeah so it's like it's the black and the clear mixed together so it's kind of like lacquer but it's not it's not enamel either no that's what you have to do to take care of it just wax it just wax it yeah we haven't hand wax or whatever we just buffed it and quick waxed it a little bit all right you dad i'm dad yeah are you dead yeah meeting of the dads where you came that was safely as best we could i think it's pretty good [Music] lumpy can't figure it out [Music] uh all right now for the fun part you have fun in there yes back in my old garage here getting some stuff this is a guy who owns this place you know he does his stuff in here too but this used to be where i built the escalade and everything kind of all kinds of random stuff in here it's getting some of the monte carlo parts so when i get back to texas i have like the stuff to do it because i have a lot of parts accumulated in here for that car but this is like this is like my old fab station here and that chair came from his dad's office yeah it's funny he's a recruiter and he gives people jobs so been a lot of stuff done in that chair it's funny because this whole this whole joint is like a lot of like it's a lot of hand-me-down stuff in here that all came from like different places that was the final cabinet in the office oh yeah that came from your house too if you really look around yeah there's it really is this whole place is just like oh hey i'm getting rid of this do you want it yes like that's your that's your dad's chair that shelf is from my dad's girlfriend's house that filing cabinet came from was that in your bedroom this yeah finally this was in his office like whenever he still worked out of the house like not out of the house like he had an office and this was in there oh wow wow i don't even remember that wow we found this in a dumpster you know the red bull thingy that's where i'd always charge my phone at pretty wild it's like a time capsule in here you saw a couple videos back i did a thing on like building a workbench for shop these are the ones i was talking about i built this one for my welding table and i put like a little ground peg on here obviously this one has more attention and time put into it because i cared about it more do the same thing for that one over there which is more like the one that i built with baylor i think it's funny you're looking at your notes i can't read them but i'm sure they say something interesting no that was when i was on the phone with my advisor figuring out if i could strong-arm him into making me do all my stuff online and then i dropped out anyway marketing yeah i can read that much of it yeah see yep i'm a dropout so there's that now i'm going to check and set all tire pressures on the trailer before we do it tonight so when i leave in the morning i won't have to worry about it and now that this thing actually has a car in it that's a little bit more critical um it's not as heavy as like john's car was with golf cart and all that stuff in it but still you know not my trailer don't want to have any blowouts that safety first also tire pressure on my truck if it's low then i'm not going to get as good of fuel mileage more rolling resistance i'm paranoid about that this is something i pay attention to i'm also going to air up my helper bags a little bit because now this thing is a little heavier to make my trucks fall a little more it's a couple more pounds of air getting prepared getting ready to hit the road feeling good about it well until next time old garage you know when i look at this place here i think about the little garage behind the house daler and hart grew up in like when i drove by there the first time i thought you know that's that's what dale did that's where he got started and i just thought man it'd be really cool someday i want people to drive past this place and think the same thing now that's on video records so you know about it someday that'll happen really won't be that long until i'm here again probably like within the month because i got to come back up here and get ill uncle george my 93 suburban for uh the so i can put the motor in that i'm supposed to go pick up in a couple weeks i didn't just say that just saying pay attention it's coming oh man i kind of totally forgot to film like the first 80 of this drive i'm outside of little rock arkansas right now look lightheaded set up too fast um about to get the old rig wash the blue beacon because it looks like hell it's already kind of got rinsed off a little bit just from some rain but like man i am the crustiest most disgusting looking vehicle on the road right now because it's 56 degrees here and it looks like i came from freaking siberia which basically i did i drove four hours in the snow uh to get to pennsylvania it started snowing on me in columbus i'm not gonna cannonball this time not worth it i'm beat i'm gonna sleep in the back of my truck for a few hours and get back on the road in the morning i'll tell you what you might wonder how can i sleep in the back of this thing when you've been driving all day and you're extremely tired you i don't care how tall you are how uncomfortable you are you will sleep like a baby in the back seat of a truck if you got a pillow and a blanket it's like whenever you're out drinking with your friends or whatever you can sleep on basically anything when you get back it's kind of like that you normally wouldn't want to sleep there but under those circumstances you're just happy to be there that's what this is like here so glad to be getting this thing cleaned off i hate salt they use deionized water so whenever you drive out of here the water dries doesn't leave any spots if you're not familiar with deionized water that's why they can do that if you are then you know where to get it i love blue beacons best thing ever well looks like we're done now and i can't get around that guy cool hey bud you're holding up the line doing something yeah go yell at him you tell him dale don't get out of the way it's my hotel tonight backseat of all elvis people don't get it i do this a lot you never really see it but it happens this is reality is what i do i got a perfectly good motorhome i don't even use it all the time because it's so much cheaper to move around with the truck and trailer and i just do this i wad up in the back seat because it saves me money and it's quicker now you know this is what i do it's what you have to do throw your comfort out the window in order to make progress faster could i get a hotel yeah but that's 100 something dollars just gone could have done something else with it i don't need that my comfort is not a priority to me i don't i don't want to be comfortable more than i want to progress you know what i take a weird sense of pride in doing stuff like this because when i'm doing this i know that somebody else is not doing it somebody else who's competing for the theoretical life that i want to live is quitting they're not going to do this stuff like every mile i drive when i don't want to is someone mile or somebody else just quit and in that moment and in that struggle i remember that and suddenly i feel good so take that tidbit with you next time you're dealing with some crap you don't want to deal with in the big picture somebody else just quit and you didn't and then i almost ran myself out of diesel well not really but i'm getting too close for comfort i wasn't going to try to risk it so i took found the nearest station and then happened to be a few miles from the highway and i'm in the middle of nowhere and i'm like the only person out here is like the only building on this road in the middle of east texas and these pumps are like so old the style's not even doing anything but stuff's coming out it's the weirdest thing i don't oh now it's it's done it didn't even log everything i did i don't know we'll see if it's full or if it's not did it actually put 50 dollars in i don't know who knows that's kind of weird could be getting ripped off i don't know i'm back just pulled in i'm freaking fried i'm fried i am so done i really have to pee and i'm just glad to be here we'll see we'll see if it's got enough beans to start it with the beans let's give it a shot here i don't know ah come on come on come on hey shut up jump pack i know it's dead get some fuel [Music] oh no we're beached hey what the hell well i like spongebob you're good you're good you're good you way too much yeah i forgot i had to crank the trailer up to put it in here big old girl don't like this trailer you had to angle it to get in here yeah a little bit or you weigh too much both of them yeah that's fine just pick it up john like the escalade yeah it was on the left this is way too nice for a drift car this paint is phenomenal it really is it looks so good from right here it it is really nice i need a clear bra so it doesn't get freaking ruined is it all freaking off the ground oh you cranked that thing hard you cranked that all the way up you know how to open one of them old boy hoods the release is down here yeah go ahead yeah i don't know why it's leaking like that was all new lines when i put it together i built this car in like three weeks ready find out if this piece of stool is going to work or not it's going to drip fuel everywhere i may have to let it i might have to let it do that for a while it's leaking on the header yeah i know that we'll just won't let it get hot it's worse than the jump pack what the heck john let me wrap her up but yeah rev the river up hey my half dead jump pack crank it better than this ford did let's deal with that it's never done this before maybe it's not getting enough pressure to start because it's leaking it's jumping the pressure is yeah and it may not be enough to even start yeah because the factory ecu should be 58. the fuel line was leaking and it was kind of dead anyway we're thinking it wasn't getting enough pressure to start this is way too late and let it charge um ashton decided to just start making a new a new fuel line to replace that one yeah we got some spare hose in the shop so make something happen we were trying to avoid getting rained on but that didn't happen oh well we're committed now got the new line on there it's been charging for a little bit you think it's gonna work i hope so me too hell yeah no leaking nice great success pull it inside oh that looks so good [Music] man it's just so weird to see this thing here it is so out of context put this into perspective when i got this car in high school i drove for a few months like a daily driver kind of thing when it wasn't raining and then i started messing with it and then it was always you know something was always going on with it was always messed up it was not trustworthy so i took it to school like i took it to college a couple times that's it and the last time it was on the road and i went somewhere with it was like 2015 2016. it just blew up the 2016. i went to one car show with the ls motor the transmission was half blown up that's it i've never like made a pull with it nothing and this lsa setup went in in 2017 so it's been like this and i've never been able to do anything with it but that's finally gonna change it sounds freaking awesome i'll rev it up for you real quick here that's all the old stuff from the escalade that's the escalated original engine the blower that was on it everything even the tune is from the the escalade everything but the oil pan like blow her lid down it's all escalate stuff i'm gonna dig into the money car a little bit go over it make note of what i need to fix what what it needs you know just moving forward make the list of what i got to do to like make it good road worthy that kind of stuff and i'll make a video about that too but that'll be a separate video but for right now i got
