What happens here
Before cutting, ensure you are wearing appropriate personal protective equipment, including safety glasses, hearing protection, and a dust mask. Place the capstone securely on a stable work surface, like saw horses, ensuring it's fully supported and won't shift during the cut. Use an angle grinder fitted with a diamond blade specifically designed for cutting concrete or stone. Carefully follow the marked lines, making several shallow passes rather than attempting one deep cut. This technique helps prevent chipping and provides greater control for a cleaner, more accurate notch. For cuts that go through the stone, cutting from both sides can minimize blowout. For fine adjustments or to achieve very sharp internal corners, a chisel and hammer can be used to carefully remove small amounts of material.
Goal: Create the precise notch in the capstone.
