What happens here
After the first coat of paint has thoroughly dried, perform a light sanding over all painted surfaces. This 'scuff sanding' or 'denibbing' helps to smooth out any slight imperfections, dust nibs, or unevenness from the first coat and provides a better adhesion surface for the subsequent coats. Use a very fine grit sanding paper (e.g., 320-400 grit) or a fine sanding pad. Clean off any dust with a tack cloth or lint-free cloth before applying the next coat.
