you can use in your garden guys so today's video is going to be a quick tips video on how to prevent weeds in your garden and a free product that you can get from starbucks this is not a sponsored video this is something that i do in my own garden and i thought it'd be really cool to introduce it to you guys so that you can start doing the same thing save money and save yourself some time in weeding your garden all right weed and feed all right folks welcome back to the stoney ridge farm again all around us is 150 acres of first generation farm i bought this property about seven years ago and been building it ever since it's an awesome time i really enjoy it we've got our chickens over here honeybees cows all sorts of fun stuff going on here on the stoney ridge so if you've never been here pound that like button and jump in subscribe the channel i'd love to have you back so this is our raised bed garden you're going to get some good b-roll footage of that we've got a lot of stuff going on we've got some pepper plants that are planted up next to the house we've got tomatoes down here in the main garden we've got some squash we've got shallots all sorts of stuff and i'm building more plant beds as the summer progresses so we'll have some late fall tomatoes and veggies too so what we're doing here today is showing you something really cool that i discovered several years ago and i've been using starbucks coffee grounds in my garden and in my compost and that's what this big pile is it's a big pile of garden soil that i built with different various compost and different various products that are biomass for the garden in other words manure wood chips and what i'm going to show you now so these are grounds for your garden they are from starbucks and i'm going to get dirty hands here in just a second but i've been testing out a plant bed with this stuff and what this is again is just old coffee grounds they take and recycle the bags that they pour coffee out of and inside here is that black gold guys so inside there is black gold for your garden and what i've been doing is simply pouring this stuff out in my garden in this garden bed to try and show you the difference in the two garden beds i've got one garden bed down here that is in dire need of weeding and then i have this garden bed which is not in dire need of weeding because i've used the starbucks coffee grounds now should you compost these yes you can compost these if you've got one of those little compost rollers or if you've got a compost pile it's free you walk into starbucks typically you walk right in the door and there are bags like that sitting right by the door for you to scoop up and for you to take home and use so they don't waste this product which is really really cool now if you've got starbucks in your local area and check your other coffee shops too ask them if they'll save your grounds their grounds for you if you've got people that garden in your area you may want to hit up the starbucks about two o'clock in the afternoon if possible that's when uh you you beat the crowd in other words people get off of work they stop by and they get it if you can beat the crowd you end up getting the spoils so let me show you exactly what we do and how we put it around the garden and we'll also show you a section of garden that i have not weeded and i have not used this product and i'm telling you it works it's really cool so simply put you can see in this garden bed right here i have coffee grounds the whole bed is covered with coffee grounds now you might have a few weeds pop up just like this little guy you'll still have to pull a few weeds here and there that's okay that's a normal thing but you don't have near the weeds like this garden bed so the way you do is you just get in here and you simply pull all your weeds out and then you'll just layer it up with this compost material from starbucks so super simple again i'll just pull all the weeds out this is some sort of i don't know what kind of weed but typically i'll have the wheelbarrow over here and i'll throw all these weeds into chicken coop the chickens will chow down on it so we'll weed it just like so just that little corner for now but you can see the difference look at the difference in all the weeds all this stuff in between here this is all weeds okay no weeds hardly any weeds over here and simply put all we do is take this bag right here and there's typically two or three of these in my starbucks every day and i'll go through and i'll get them and i'll just simply spread them out about a one inch to two inch layer right in my garden beds right there doesn't that look beautiful so it mulches it actually helps your garden to retain moisture this stuff is really cool it helps your garden to retain moisture and it also helps to prevent weeds now you'll have a few weeds so don't get me wrong it's not going to totally eliminate the weeds from your garden as you can tell like right here but as you go throughout the summer you'll you'll pull these weeds out and they won't come back because this starbucks mulch has mulched them in so you're basically using the starbucks old coffee grounds as mulch and weed control in your garden that's awesome guys so when i stopped by starbucks yesterday they gave me two giant trash bag full of this stuff so that's your stoney ridge gardening tip for the day go to starbucks go to your local coffee shop i don't care if it's caribou coffee or starbucks or just a local coffee shop and ask them if they have spent grounds old coffee grounds they're something that really works in your garden and again it helps prevent weeds it helps your soil retain moisture and it helps to feed the plants so as it rains on here some of the nutrients from this coffee will excite my plants and they'll grow up to be big healthy tall tomato plants so guys thanks a lot for joining me here on the stoney ridge i've got a little bit more work to do got to go ahead and finish out this plant bed and we got to stop by we passed three star bucks every single day when we drive to the gym so we might as well stop in grab the spent grounds and put them to use here in our garden thanks a lot guys i really appreciate you coming here for a stoney ridge quick tips video please jump in subscribe the channel i'd love to have you back again all around us here as 150 acres of first generation farm we're building something special we're building something beautiful we're not using fertilizers we aren't subscribing to the typical farm methods we are regenerative farming here on the stoney ridge thanks a lot guys we'll see you next time enjoy i'm gonna put these grounds down [Music] please get off of me it's not giving me sugar i don't want
