Before commencing spray painting, it is imperative to thoroughly prepare the work area to prevent overspray on unintended surfaces. This involves meticulously masking off all surrounding areas such as walls, floors, and door frames using painter's tape to secure masking paper or plastic sheeting. For personal protection against paint fumes and skin contact, wear a comprehensive set of personal protective equipment (PPE), including a full-body painter's suit, a respirator mask, protective gloves, and safety glasses. A balaclava can be worn to protect hair and neck. Set up an airless paint sprayer, specifically fitted with an HEA (High-Efficiency Airless) 311 tip and a short extension for enhanced maneuverability within the cramped confines of a closet. Load the sprayer with Sherwin-Williams Scuff-Tuff paint, ensuring it is in the desired Snowbound White color and a semi-gloss finish. Begin applying the paint to the closet shelves and all interior surfaces. The technique requires making smooth, consistent, and overlapping passes with the sprayer, maintaining an even distance from the surface, to achieve a uniform coat and avoid any drips or runs. The painter demonstrates adapting various body positions, including kneeling and even lying down, to effectively reach all angles and tight spots within the closet. The HEA tip is particularly advantageous in small areas as it produces a 'feathered edge' spray pattern, which helps blend paint passes seamlessly and significantly reduces the likelihood of 'fingering' (visible lines or uneven paint application).
