Spray Poles Explained: Paint Faster, Reach Higher & Make More Money

All right, here I'm going to show you two spray poles. This is um one of the original this is probably the original one that I bought over 20 years ago. New construction interiors um huge interiors, vaulted ceilings, stuff like that. Spray poles are absolutely amazing. I do have a good friend of mine that sprays all of his interiors, exteriors, sprays his trim, everything with a 12-ft pole. This is a shorter version. This is like a 4 to um 6-ft or 4 to 8-ft. Um this one right here is an 8 to 12-ft. So, I'll talk about the advantage to, you know, one of these versus spray extensions. So, spray extensions, you what you saw me use a 24 extension and I hooked multiple together, a 6-in extension's going to spit. A 30-in is going to spit even more. And the longer you go, the more they spit. This has the gun attached to a spray pole, so you don't get any spit. So, that's one of the huge advantages. Disadvantage, it takes a little bit to set up. Um you might have saw me just setting it up. I just got a faceful of overspray cuz I accidentally uh squeezed the trigger when I was setting it up. So, when you start to tighten the thumb screw up, if this is too close to the trigger, this will start to tighten the gun. It'll start to move it closer to the trigger and you'll trigger your gun. It's what I actually did, got overspray on the pole, all over me. Another one of the drawbacks to this uh versus say an extension, I take my new guys, I put them on a 30-in extension the first day they spray and away you go. They start spraying and they and the learning curve is really short. This is um a a lot bigger learning curve. It takes a lot more practice uh to actually get this down without getting tons of overspray everywhere. So, it does take practice. This is the great place to learn is new construction uh in new construction interiors or exteriors cuz you don't have to worry about overspray anywhere uh on an exterior on a new construction or interior. So, I got it set up the way I want it and I can reach right here all the way there. So, my reach is good. I can actually go up a little bit higher so I don't have to be so stretched out. So, you'll see this will adjust. I loosen that up this up. Man, it's been a long time since I used this thing. So, just like that. You see it? So, I just sprayed all that without even getting on a ladder. Now, I'll do this over here. So, I don't have to get on a ladder once again. One of the advantages to using a spray pole is when you start to get on high sides and I'm using a spray extension, I'm going to have to use a ladder and you're going to end up having start and stops in the middle of your field, which is not always ideal. You know, especially if it's in the sun. So, if you're on a sunny side, that's where you'll end up getting flashing and it won't look good if it's drying so fast. So, a spray pole could be a huge advantage there. But once again, the the learning curve to it um the cost of the spray pole, there is wearable parts on it. So, this is um one of the very first generations of it and when you we would break the spray poles like right here. Once the head broke, you had to just buy a whole 'nother spray pole. I'll show you what I did, you know, right here later on. This is one of their newer versions because of that issue, they um made just a replaceable head. So, now this is still good. So, you break this head right here and then you just buy a new head. So, the cost is significantly less when it comes to replacing you know, the device. It just snaps right in. So, you can actually have you know, multiple heads in your vehicle. Just buy an extra head, so if you break it, then you can just open up and get going and you don't have any downtime. They are pretty dang you know, cool tools. I have both of these hanging you know, in uh my vehicles. I've just gotten accustomed to using extensions. But once again, there's a time and a place, you know, for everything. So, just like this, this building is the perfect example when you know, breaking out the spray pole's an option. So, there's what it looks like uh using some of the pretty cool tools out there for painters.
