Sometimes you need a tool, sometimes you use the ones you got 👊

What happens here

Using a Makita circular saw, carefully adjust the blade depth to match the desired depth of your notch. Make a series of parallel, shallow cuts (kerfs) across the marked section of the wooden joist. These cuts should be spaced closely together, from one end of the marked notch to the other. Ensure you do not cut beyond the boundaries of your marked notch. The closer these cuts are, the easier the wood will be to remove in the next step. Hold the saw firmly and maintain a steady hand to keep the cuts straight and consistent.

Goal: Weaken the wood within the notch area for easy removal.
