Simplicity is the soul of efficiency!! We love this little trick ☺️

What happens here

Begin by positioning a pre-cut wooden block (typically made from pressure-treated lumber to match the deck frame) perpendicular to the outermost deck joist, ensuring it is flush with the top surface of the joist. Using an impact driver, drive several appropriate deck screws (suitable for pressure-treated lumber) through the block and into the end joist to firmly attach it. After the initial securement with screws, take a pneumatic nail gun and drive multiple nails through the same wooden block into the end joist. This dual fastening method provides enhanced structural integrity and speeds up the construction process. Repeat this procedure for all necessary blocking pieces along the length of the end joist.

Goal: Securely attach wooden blocks to the deck's end joists using both screws and nails.

Tools and materials

  • Deck Joist Pro Wood — The structural members to which the blocks are attached
  • Deck Screws — Initial fastening of wooden blocks to joists
  • Hearing Protection — Protecting ears from loud noise of nail gun
  • Impact Driver Makita — Driving screws to initially secure the wooden blocks
  • Nails — Reinforcing the attachment of wooden blocks
  • Pneumatic Nail Gun — Driving nails to reinforce the attachment of wooden blocks
  • Safety Glasses — Protecting eyes from flying debris or fasteners
  • Wooden Blocks Pro Wood — Creating attachment or support points on the deck frame
