After the fireplace frame is complete, apply a weather-resistant barrier. First, use Dupont Tyvek HomeWrap to cover the plywood sheathing around the fireplace opening, ensuring proper overlap and sealing to protect against moisture. Then, apply a darker, possibly self-adhering, waterproof membrane over the lower portion of the Tyvek wrap, extending into the fireplace opening. This membrane provides an additional layer of protection, particularly where the veneer stone will be installed.
