Rocky Mountain Race Week Day 4: LSXcalade Going For The 9 Second Average! (OKC to Great Bend KS)

What happens here

Begin the driving portion of the event, navigating through rural highways and small towns. Monitor the vehicle's vitals, particularly coolant temperature. If temperatures rise unexpectedly, pull over and check the coolant level, adding water as needed (the driver adds water from a friend's cooler after noticing high temperatures during a previous dyno run). Be aware of weather changes; the driver encounters rain, which can be problematic for racing slicks. The route takes participants through various small towns, sometimes appearing semi-abandoned, highlighting the historic routes once vital to local economies before major interstates.

Goal: Navigate the route and manage unexpected minor vehicle issues.

Tools and materials

  • Cadillac Escalade — Primary drag vehicle and tow vehicle
  • Racing Slicks Hoosier — Specialized tires for drag racing, perform poorly in wet conditions
  • Water/Coolant — Replenishing radiator fluid in the Escalade
