So, guys, one of my neighbors stopped by here. I don't know if y'all know him. How's it going? Well, today on the Stony Ridge Farm Channel, we are going to get the radiator finally into the race car, into the NASCAR, and we're going to get the tires pumped up. First, we're going to head to Northern Tool and pick up some gear to get started on this project. Today is going to be super fun, and I've got a little surprise for you. Good morning, everybody. Welcome back to the Stony Ridge Farm. Today is moving and shaking day, man. I've got a lot of stuff to get done. I got that race car up in the shop that I haven't been able to enjoy, and I want to take it to a track day. So, today, hopefully, we are going to get the radiator in that car. I've got some friends coming over. We're going to head to Northern Tool real quick. I've got to take a generator in for service and pick up some gear. Today is going to be fun. Stick around till the end. You're going to be surprised. I got a special visitor coming here to the farm. Flat free zero turn tire. Daddy likey. Need one of those. Keep getting flats. I found what I came for, guys. This is the three-way splitter that we're going to put on my new compressor. And I also saw something else that caught my eye that matches the race car. So, check this out. I'm a huge Richard Petty fan, and I think I need a new creeper. I don't even have a good creeper. That's a Richard Petty creeper. Check it out. And a good jack. And it's on sale, regular 319. 3 ton. Daddy's taking that home with him, right there. Let's get it in the truck. I talked to him about the generator and getting it serviced for next fall, and we're going to handle that. And it looks like the storms are coming in, man. I have to race them home. Guys, cost of ownership on a new diesel truck is super ridiculous. I can't believe that a truck like this would cost anywhere between 75 and 120,000 bucks. That's insane to me. I got to pick up a little bit of ice. Get the coolers packed. Shout out to Bobcat. Earl, are you a certified forklift operator? Absolutely certified. [laughter] Good to see you go. This is Earl, guys. He's a great dude. Uh let me pull this thing a little closer so we don't lose the tailgate. Down. Little more. Okay. Pull on forward. Keep coming. Keep coming. I always bring my equipment to Northern Tool, have them service it every year. That way I don't have to worry about it. Especially if it's a Northern Tool branded piece of equipment. Even if you didn't buy it here, they'll still do the service. Stay. Stay. Awesome. Let's get them things back to the shop. Woo. I'm not going to lie. It's been weeks. It's been weeks. So, we got the new jack and the new creeper there with the big fat number 43 on it. It is awesome. I couldn't get the car started yesterday. I pumped up the tires. I got it rolled out, but just so happens I recruited little help. >> [laughter] >> And we're going to be having a little bit of fun trying to figure this guy out. I don't know what we're going to get done today, but I do have a super special surprise for you, and he's a neighbor of mine. He's coming. You're going to love this guy. I know you know who he is. So, let's get busy thinking and wrenching on this. All right. So, boys, first thing we got to do is introduce y'all. So, this is Chris Meeks with Well, I'll let you tell them who you're with. Uh we run Meeks Recycling and Pick-N-Pull and roll-off services in Martinsville, Virginia. Yep, he's got a TikTok channel. He's building hot rods. He's building all kinds of cool stuff. Uh and this is Nathan Garrett. He's got a racing team. Uh tell them about it. >> So, yeah, we're uh based out of Stoneville, North Carolina. So, literally right down the road from Stony here, and uh we run open-wheel modified at Ace Speedway and other tracks around North Carolina and Southern Virginia. So. >> Nice. So, that's his car over there, and we'll get you a little more shot of that. And then Chris's truck is over here. What do y'all think? Let's take a look at it. First thing we got to do is get it started. So, I got a little can of fuel. I'll pour a little fuel in the carb and see if y'all can help me start it. >> Sure. All right. Here we go. Oh, a little BIT TOO BIG FOR this thing. Chris, you sold this thing to me. >> [laughter] >> Do you Do you feel bad? Nah. No, no. I think it's uh it's exciting. >> It's a true classic. All right. Here we go. I charged the battery all night last night. Hopefully, it'll fire on up. Make sure she's out of gear. I don't want to get ran over. Oh. Look at all the excitement this has produced. I know. It's sickness. It is a sickness. All right. >> A little squirt. Uh give it just a little squirt in the carb, maybe. That's probably good. Let's see what we got here. Um Oh, yeah, she's spraying. You see it? All right. Clutch has a little leak in it, so I'm pumping the clutch pretty good in here. Uh let's try her out. CLEAR PROPS. SO, THAT'S MY BIGGEST PROBLEM IS IT will start, but it won't stay running. What do you think that might be? It could be the timing. It could be just a touch off. Yeah? Yeah, start it there just for a second. Start it? Yeah, let it run for a minute. >> thing loose? Yeah, it is. Yeah, so it very well could have backed up. >> Here we go. Just a little bit of rotation like that helps it, man. Oh, man. What a difference. So, yesterday when I was grinding on this thing, it was and it would fire up and it wouldn't start. And then it would fire up again and it wouldn't start. So, I'm glad we got the experts. He can My mechanical knowledge is limited, but I'm a fast learner. >> [laughter] >> Looks like we need a Allen wrench. >> Do you? Yeah, I think he he may. Let me get my He's got one in his pocket, looks like on his pocket knife or something. Just pocket pliers. Oh, yeah. It's not ideal, but it'll make it tighter than it was. Yeah. Cuz you still have to be just a touch. Loose where you can move it a little bit. >> Case you need to. But, I can't get it real tight with this. All right. That's good. Perfect. Perfect. So, now I should be able to theoretically just reach in and hit the start button and watch it take off. >> [laughter] >> Yeah. Here we go. Clear prop. Okay. Next Next part of this project is Back in the day when I bought this from Chris Basically, I knew what I was getting into. I wanted a 450 horsepower go-kart and that's what this is. The whole goal with this is to put some boggers on it. Take it over the other side of the farm and make a little circle track in a piece of land that I'm not using. So, take about an acre and make a circle track and then we can bring Nathan over here. [laughter] Uh And Chris with some Crown Vics and we can go have some fun. It'd be some nice backwoods racing, wouldn't it? >> Yeah. Yeah. It'd be more fun. You could go anywhere. So, we have no coolant in the machine. Next thing we got to do, I've got a radiator here. It's an older radiator and they used to put nice new stuff on this thing. It this car will probably It may get on the track again, it may not get on the track again, but this is junkyard racing at its best. So, let's see if we can get this thing, which is held in by some ratchet straps and we'll beat and bang a little bit. We'll probably strap the other one in with ratchet straps, too, until we can build bracketry, but Let's see if we can get this thing cooling so I can drive it. First thing, I guess I can't get that radiator cap off. I'm going to let y'all jump on that and I'm going to see what I can figure out over here. All right. Yeah, I'm going to Yeah. We're going to get Put these in real tight, I can just tell. I might take it back to where it came from. Them's a quick release style. >> [laughter] >> I can do this under caution. I'm worried. By the way, I'm buying y'all lunch. Woohoo! [laughter] Just water. Just water. Replacing one radiator with slightly better radiator. Yeah, that one's got a hole in it. Oh, this is definitely better then. Yeah. After it gets warm. >> [laughter] >> Yeah, it's fitting down in those grooves. >> All right, nice. Looks like. Yeah. Um Boys There we go. This one pees out the front. That's why Yeah, it pees out the front. That's why we got to get rid of it. No, this is a new one. Oh, this is the Yeah, we got Y'all are ninjas. Yeah, so we're going to do this under caution. radiator cap off? Yeah. Yeah, that's off. What in the It's a quick change, man. Good job. Yeah. All right. [laughter] Go team. Good job. Good team. Man. Should we knock them brackets up a little bit, do you think? >> it's sitting there on it. So They're um So, it's on the spot where it is. >> Yeah, and if you look on this side, the lip is keeping it from moving forward. >> forward. So, yeah, it's kind of Yeah, I like it. >> It's kind of made for it, it looks like. >> Let's get a prettier ratchet strap. Let me get a pretty ratchet strap instead of old orangey. Yeah, she's a faded a little bit. Might need this to hold some shocks in or something. Where'd this radiator come from, Josh? Is this uh I got a donation from Chris Fix Auto Okay. Little bit of sponsorship, I see. Meeks Pick-A-Part in Martinsville, Virginia. All right. I guess we need water. We need fans. Biggest I guess uh he wants to check the alternator, too, so we could uh Just sit that up there and see what it looks like it's going to take to make it work. I think it's got some uh dirt in the holes, so we'll try to dig that out with the pick. Red means race, right? That's right. >> [laughter] >> Red, yeah. Red means race, gray means incognito. >> [laughter] >> Uh But, I guess first before we strap it in, we need to make sure she's going to draw uh coolant in, right? >> Yep. Yep. So, should I >> We need to get some water. We got any All right. That looks like about a 2 and 1/2 gallon job right there. Should I start it up, Chris? Wouldn't hurt nothing. Hope these quality used parts don't leak. There we go. Good bad for advertising. >> [laughter] >> Clear prop. Yeah. Well, it's going to have a little bit of overflow about the cap. You mean the cap it. Let's see what she does. I can't believe it held. It was ro- it was rotating, I mean circulating. Did we test that cap? Uh We got a junk car down there we might be able to pull. It's warm. Yeah, it's getting hot. Cool. What you got? Flow through it then? Yeah. So, we've got flow. Uh What do you think the next step is? I need a fan. Should got a Going to have to have a fan. Yep. Need a fan to start drawing. If you put the alternator on, you can put electric fan. Yeah. But if not, you can use a manual fan. Well, let's see what we can do on the alternator here, guys. We got the alternator sitting over here. Another donation from Meeks Auto Recycling. And most of these alternators even normally bolt on the heads. Yeah. >> And uh Chris, it looks like you went ahead and started cleaning some of the holes out. All right. Um but, you got to I'm sure uh those holes are normally threaded. I've Yep. >> They look like they are threaded. So, um that's what we'll probably use. Let's see if we can get it on there and I'll start digging around for some belts. Yeah, we're we're going to take this this uh I guess it's a junkyard pull that Chris uh gave gave to the race car I guess enterprise here. So, um trying to figure out how we can get this thing mounted. It looks like Chris, you're trying to break loose one of those bolts that somebody's already been using, it looks like. >> Yeah, I think when we put the motor in this car, we used this to bolt the chain to. So, Okay. Sometimes it's good to have extra parts. Never can have too many I guess you could say pick and pull where is on an engine. That's right. It look like it's going to fit up in there. I'd have a long bolt. This might fit the top here if it would just start, it would hold it in place while we was trying to figure the rest out. So, do these these brackets typically fit? How do these fit? This one normally goes here. >> goes up here. And this one goes on the water pump, so it very well may not work with this setup. Don't like it's going to. Cuz that would go down through the head. Let's see if I can get this just starting and if it'll hold itself up there well. >> This will have us a idea of what we need. So, this is going to be some mock-up uh I ain't sure if this is actually fit. >> Yeah. Not for water pumps that we've got. All right. Now, just let it dangle there and let's see what All right. it looks like. Here. So, y'all can see he's trying to get an idea for his alignment. Um Anything will work cuz of the pulleys and none of that's going >> Yeah. So, what you really want to do is make sure that your your pulleys here and here on your water pump and your crank down on the bottom, all that needs to line up so that it can drive itself. Correct. >> So, if not, you're not going to get anything out of it. What you got there? It ain't going to fit. It uh this water pump is not designed uh for that. And if you notice, the pulley is just way too far forward. Ah, okay. >> We're going to have to uh pick some more parts then. Got you. Well, let's make sure we got oil in it. Yep. It's got oil in it. Well, All right. Now, we got a fan shroud. Let's take a look at that fan shroud. All right. Like brand new. See there? Duct tape makes the world go round. Duct tape and the Jeff Tapper sign. Does that fit any kind of way in there? I think you're going to have to go back to the parts yard cuz I think they gave you some wrong stuff. I don't know if that's going to go in there. Now? No, it might would work if that's all you needed, but I don't think it's going to like fit. I believe the I best idea, what do y'all think, is uh get the alternator in and put an electric fan on it. It'll take care of all the uh uncertainty of any of the custom fitting. So, what do we got? I just put that in there so we can kind of hang it. It's uh you just take this right back out. 14 right there. The good thing about electric fans, too, you got a lot more clearance in there. Uh I mean, you can still run a shroud, but it it'll it'll You get them a lot closer to the uh radiator itself. Got you. Lot more compact. That's what we run on our our modifieds. It's just And it takes the drag away off of the front of the water pump, too. >> It does. So, you you kind of help reduce the horsepower loss by doing that. Which the alternator has that same issue, but you got to still use it to charge your battery, so Eliminate rotate weight. That's right. Guys, I can't We're at a bit of a stopping point right here till we get some more parts from Mr. Meeks, but we do have a special guest that just pulled in the driveway. Guys, how you doing? Hey, how you doing? This is Nathan. This is his car. How you doing, Mr. Petty? Nice to meet you. Chris Meeks. Chris Meeks. And this is my camera guy. So, guys, one of my neighbors stopped by here. I don't know if y'all know him. How's it going? This here's Mr. Petty. I'm super blessed to have this man here on the farm today. Amazing to me that I a man could buy a piece of junk race car, uh get picked up by Northern Tool as a sponsor, and Mr. Petty has partnered up with Northern Tool to show you guys a couple neat little toolboxes that we have here. So, this is a new toolbox. It's just been released. Uh Mr. Petty's name on it. Is this uh Petty Garage or is it just Richard Petty? >> Petty stuff, I think. It's Richard Petty stuff. It's got a big 43 on it. Yep. You've got your name on more stuff than I than I've ever seen. I got a can of uh uh glass cleaner in the house. It's Richard Petty glass cleaner. >> [laughter] >> But uh You can take it and clean the cooler box with it, okay? Yeah. No doubt. No doubt. So, this is the very first uh toolbox here uh that Northern Tool and Strongway and Mr. Petty have worked together on. And this is really the first time you've seen it, right? So, what do you What do you think about it? It's It's a perfect deal. It's got good handle on it, good good big wheels, you know, it's plenty of room on it. So, uh yeah. I think it does everything, you know, Yeah. This would work good with them race cars. Yeah, and it's affordable. Work good with a race team. Awesome thing. Super proud to have something like this in the shop. And I believe you're taking this in home? Yeah, I might just take it home with me. >> [laughter] >> All I need now is get me some tools, okay? No doubt. No doubt. Well, uh Mr. Petty is a a neighbor of ours, kind of. He lives about an hour and 10 minutes away, something like that. Oh, that's where you driving. I did that quicker. Ah, I heard [laughter] tell I heard I heard tell incident way back in Rockingham County. Have you ever had any run-ins up here? I disappeared. [laughter] All right. Well, good deal. Well, Mr. Petty, thank you so much. Guys, we will I'll shake your hand again. We will >> to go out and get them a new toolbox. Yeah, absolutely. Help support the the Petty family. And you still doing the Victory Junction? >> Oh, yeah. We've got the Victory Junction still going strong. 21 years of it. Yeah. Before you pull out of here, I want to give you a little donation to the Victory Junction and uh yeah, I think it that'd be great. And just want to thank you so much. And guys, really, today's video was just about Mr. Petty and coming up here, wrenching on an old race car. This is the junk that gets you started in it. So, maybe my kids or grandkids can start a racing legacy like this guy right here. So, awesome. Thank you, Mr. Petty. Thank you, guys. Guys, thanks so much for joining us on the Stony Ridge Farm. There's one thing we do at the end of every video. We go woo! Woo! There you go. >> [laughter] >> That's it. Well, thank you. Thank you, Mr. Petty. And thank y'all for watching today. Thank all these guys for helping out. Had a fun time. Go to Northern Tool, check out this toolbox. I'll post a link down the video description for you guys. Got a toolbox, got a creeper, and have a jack set up. All branded with that big number 43 in that beautiful Petty blue. Woohoo! She's a little smoky, boys and girls. >> [laughter] >> Now, what are we supposed to be doing here, guys? So, all we're going to do is uh I think it's almost blue, huh? It is. >> Almost. It's almost. >> [laughter] >> Uh This thing's been out in the dead gummit. Oh, he's running it, man, out in the farm in the dirt. That's what it's been. That's what I said. Look like he's been farming with this thing. >> That sure is. Pulling plows and everything else. >> [laughter] >> That's what it looks like. Creeper and the jack. Hit it and fool it. Don't get no Petty. That's a two That's a two-manner.
