What happens here
An excavator, fitted with a specialized vacuum lifting attachment, carefully picks up a large concrete or stone slab from a pallet. The excavator operator then expertly maneuvers the arm to position the slab precisely over the prepared ground. A ground worker stands ready to guide the slab into its final placement, ensuring proper alignment with any previously laid slabs or edges. Once the slab is correctly positioned and leveled, the ground worker activates a release mechanism (typically a lever or button on the vacuum lifter) to break the vacuum seal and detach the slab from the attachment. The excavator then returns to the pallet to pick up the next slab, and the process is repeated until the paved area is complete.
Goal: Precisely position and lay large concrete or stone slabs onto a prepared surface.
Tools and materials
- Excavator — Lifting and precisely maneuvering heavy concrete or stone slabs
- Guiding Tool
- Rubber Mallet — Gently tapping slabs into final position and ensuring good contact with the bedding layer
- Safety Boots — Protecting feet from heavy falling objects and punctures
- Safety Gloves — Protecting hands from abrasions, cuts, and vibrations
- Safety Helmet — Protecting the head from falling objects or impacts, especially critical on a construction site
- Spirit Level — Checking the level and grade of each slab as it is placed to ensure a flat and even surface
- Vacuum Lifting Attachment — Creating a powerful vacuum seal to securely lift and transport large, flat slabs
- Bedding Material — Providing a stable, permeable, and level base for the slabs to rest upon
- Large Concrete or Stone Slabs — The primary paving material being installed
- Pallet — Storing and organizing the slabs on-site for easy access by the excavator
