Post to beam connection, explained!

What happens here

Position the 2x6 scab flat against the side of the 6x6 post, ensuring it is flush with the post and extends upward to contact the underside of the beam. Using a cordless impact driver, securely fasten the scab to both the 6x6 post and the beam with appropriate wood screws. Drive multiple screws through the scab into the post and into the beam. This mechanical fastening creates a rigid connection that keeps the post and beam in their intended alignment, preventing any lateral movement or skewing of the beam.

Goal: Mechanically reinforce the post-to-beam joint with the scab
