Permaedge over plastic!

What happens here

Once the edge restraint material is mixed, begin applying it along the outer perimeter of the installed pavers. Scoop the material from the wheelbarrow and place it against the vertical edge of the outermost pavers. Using a brick trowel or pointing trowel, press the material firmly against the paver edge and shape it to create a strong, angled haunch. The material should extend from the bottom of the paver up to about two-thirds or three-quarters of the paver's height. The top surface of the concrete haunch should be sloped away from the pavers, creating a ramp-like profile that provides excellent lateral support. Ensure there's a small gap at the very top of the paver's edge, between the top of the concrete haunch and the paver's finished surface, to allow for soil and grass growth, creating a seamless transition. Smooth the surface of the haunch with the trowel for a neat finish.

Goal: Apply and shape the concrete mix to secure the paver perimeter.

Tools and materials

  • Brick Trowel — Applying, pressing, and shaping the concrete haunch
  • Knee Pads — Protecting knees during prolonged kneeling on hard surfaces
  • Mixed Edge Restraint Material Perm Edge — The primary material used to create the edge support
