What happens here
Following the meticulous preparation of the subgrade and compaction of the aggregate base, a bedding layer (typically screeded washed concrete sand or a suitable fine aggregate) is spread and precisely leveled. The video shows workers engaging in the crucial task of laying the large format stone pavers onto this prepared bedding layer. Each paver, ranging in size from square to rectangular, is individually lifted, often requiring careful handling due to its weight and size, and then gently lowered into its designated position. The installer ensures the paver sits flush and level with adjacent pavers, and consistent, tight joints are maintained. They often use subtle movements to nudge the paver into perfect alignment, checking for proper fit and avoiding damage to the bedding layer. This careful placement prevents rocking and ensures an even, stable surface that allows for optimal interlock and facilitates water drainage through the permeable aggregate base. The paver pattern appears to be a mixed-size modular design, where different dimensions of pavers are arranged to create an aesthetic layout. Border pavers, which serve as edge restraints, are already visible and in place, defining the perimeter of the main paver field.
Goal: Workers carefully place large, rectangular and square stone pavers onto a pre-leveled sand bedding layer, ensuring proper alignment and tight seams for a durable and permeable patio surface.
