Passive water system keeps failing! The cows need your help!
What happens here
The siphoning system originates from a pond, utilizing an underwater filter system with a float to draw water. The water travels from the pond intake, which is approximately 10-12 feet higher than the water tanks, through the poly pipe. At the highest point of the pipe system near the tanks, a valve has been installed to allow trapped air to 'burp out.' To prevent backflow of air, a swing check valve (a brass valve with a internal swinging mechanism) was installed just below the pond's water level. This valve is designed to allow water flow in one direction but prevent reverse flow. The creator demonstrates how the valve should operate by blowing into it, showing that air passes in one direction but not the other. However, the system continues to lose prime, suggesting other issues. Possible culprits include a tiny undetected hole in the pipe, heat causing micro-air bubbles, or a section of the pipe being physically squashed.
