Manage Masking to Prevent Bridging

What happens here

When applying paint near masking tape, it's critical to avoid getting paint onto the tape if it will dry before removal. If paint dries on the masking tape, it can 'bridge' the tape to the freshly painted surface. When the masking is pulled off, this bridging can cause the new paint to peel off in certain places, creating an undesirable finish. Always be mindful of keeping paint off dry masking.
