Raise Door and Remove Masking
At 10:03 in
Paint a garage door in 2 minutes. How to paint doors!
What happens here
After the paint is applied, immediately raise the garage door up to about halfway. This prevents the freshly applied paint from 'tacking' (sticking) to the weather stripping around the door frame. If the paint is allowed to dry while the door is closed and touching the weather stripping, it can glue the door to the frame. When you then try to open the door, it could rip out the weather stripping or even damage the garage door opener mechanism. After raising it halfway, carefully remove all the masking paper and tape from the bottom concrete surface and the upper weather stripping.
Goal: Prevent paint from sticking to weather strips and prepare for trim work.
