What happens here

This video details the process of clearing a fallen Virginia Pine tree from a livestock fence line using chainsaws and a skid-steer-mounted wood chipper. The project includes sectioning the fallen tree, chipping branches for soil enrichment, and repairing the damaged woven wire fence by tapping and lifting the fence wires back into place.

[Music] my neighbor's tree is on my fence hey there folks this is Josh Stoney Ridge farmer welcome back to another gorgeous day here on the Stoney Ridge we are wasting time and racing the rain by cleaning up my neighbor's tree that fell off of his property owned to my fence I want your opinion share your opinion is he responsible am I responsible who's responsible let me know guys come along today as we have some fun we're going to be using some really cool tools we're going to show you just how simple and easy it is to get a tree off of this woven wire fence from tornado wire pull it back up get everything back ready and we're going to move the cows over in here about two weeks from now I ain't afraid [Music] times like this if you mess with my freedom I'll change is what you can kiss all right folks welcome back to the Stoney Ridge Farm Channel let's show you the extent of the damage here from this tree so this is a southern yellow pine or Loblolly not a Loblolly excuse me this is a Virginia pine Which is less desirable than a Loblolly or Southern yellow pine and it's really no good for anything other than to push back up in the woods and we might get some firewood logs out of this this is the fence and typically this is the next pull down the fence would be about four feet tall well as you can see the fence is no longer four feet tall it just pushed it over and leaned it over and bent a few of the stay wires so this is a line wire that is a stay wire there's your education on fencing for the day so obviously we're gonna have to get this off the fence I think my angle of attack is going to be to come over here cut it roll this piece over the the top of the tree and everything on this top of the tree from this point that way will go in the wood Max 9900 SS wood chipper so this is the wood Max wood chipper made in America made in USA this is how it works basically we'll fire up the skid steer we'll get this thing up to 1200 RPM this is your safety bar push to stop it also will adjust for how fast you want to feed this so when we put larger logs and this will take up to nine inch stuff when we put the larger logs in there we want to slow it down just a little bit so we'll bring it down to about right there and then this is the discharge chute right here this discharge chute is aimable so in other words I'll grab this handle and I can point it any direction but it's not advised to point it where you'll have to walk to get back in the skid loader so we'll be pointing it out into the pasture and as we chip more we'll rotate it rotate it rotate it and we'll blast all that biomass out here onto our soil to help build the soil here on the Stoney Ridge Farm now the other tools we're going to be using this is my buggy this is well it's Honda's buggy this is the Honda Pioneer 1006 for 2023 Hondas loaned this thing out to me to use thank you Honda awesome machine just testing it out probably going to end up buying this machine for the farm because it's super convenient and much much quieter and faster than the Kubota has a self-leveling suspension here are the tools we're going to be using so today we put away the steel and we're busting out the Husky this is a Husqvarna 572 XP with a 23 inch bar this is the Toro battery power chainsaw let's make sure we got plenty of battery here and we got enough I just sharpened all this stuff believe it or not this little saw probably could get the entire job done so what we'll do is we'll cut the big stuff with the Husky that's my plan and then we'll cut the smaller stuff with the little electric chainsaw it's a little bit easier to use a little bit lighter weight and in my opinion just a little bit safer now we have our trusty Husqvarna fuel canister guys I sing the Praises of this fuel canister all the time there'll be a link in the video description to this Critter as well as the Toro chainsaw but this is my go-to chainsaw toolbox everything all in one our borrower is in there our mixed gas is in there on the other side we've got a cool little toolbox that handles all of our goodies that we'll need to take with us into the woods that is an indispensable item and the stinking best gift idea for that chainsaw user in your family that is the hands down I have two of them it's hands down one of the most handy tools aside from the side by side that we use on the farm okay now let's get busy let's blast out some wood chips have some fun [Music] [Applause] [Music] folks thanks a lot for watching Stony Ridge Farm Channel today gosh I really appreciate you being here I hope you're entertained and I hope you enjoy this please post a comment down there let me know what you'd like to see more of here on the property here on the Stoney Ridge so a lot of folks are really against the electric chainsaw I'm giving them a try okay I'm gonna give them a shot I think what we're missing here is that electric technology in the chainsaw world is getting better and better and better and I think this little Toro saw will prove it to you now if we run the battery dead we run it dead you see how much power it had only about three out of four bars but I feel like we can accomplish this job mainly with the electric chainsaw and we do the heavy work with the big 572 Husqvarna XP that you see me working with right here all right [Music] [Applause] [Music] foreign [Music] foreign ER you get to wear many many hats and this is one of the most important ones guys um that little Toro saw I I'm telling you it's a great little saw it kicked butt we still have all three bars left um so for small jobs like that or cutting yourself a pickup truckload of wood if you had two batteries this Toro saw would get it done it's about the same cost as a regular chainsaw so if you want to try electric I like the Toro we're going to test a few more in some future videos uh the Husqvarna speaks for itself this 572 XP is a monster of a chainsaw did you guys notice the wind started picking up they say don't pee into the wind well don't chip into the wind I got to wear quite a few chips so the next thing we got to do is fix this fence I'm going to show you just how easy it is to just raise it right back up super simple with this woven wire as tight as it is it just lifts right back up so here we are at our fence post and at our problem a lot of broom sedge out here guys we are healing the land it didn't start out and no Farm starts out just perfect so bear with us this is what we've got and we've got to get this up the reason we didn't go with wooden posts if this was stapled it would probably just pop the Staples out they'd be out in the pasture and they would be a hazard to the cattle's feet okay so think about that if it did pull the staple out Bing it would just shoot it out into the pasture and risk injuring an animal what we have here is simply a hammer and a pair of channel locks and what we're going to do is just tap our fence up basically you'll first take the hammer and I'll lift and tap and lift and tap I'll show you this post tie right here is what holds everything in place that's what's holding the post down so as I tap up on the back side I get this one loose right here we'll bring it on up as high as we can and we'll tap the back side of the next one up up up up up up up up up up up we'll go down here to this lower one we'll tap it boom see that up up up up up up we'll tap on the front side there and we've just about got her fixed next thing we need to do is make sure we're kind of loose here okay pretty simple we'll hang our Hammer up on the fence post just like so and we'll start pulling our wire up by hand just like that now some of these line wires and stay wires are bent we'll just give them a little tug up up up up as we go along and we'll repair the fence I'll show you line wire horizontal stay wire vertical takes a grunt to get it right We Don't Spray our fence lines on the Stoney Ridge Farm we don't put herbicide down if we can help it lift up bend them straight up this is why I chose this fencing system you guys notice that we're about 8 to 12 to 16 feet away from the forest so that we don't have this problem this is only the third tree that's fell on our fence since we built it if there were animals in this pasture when that tree fell on they would not get out because it fell right next to that post they will get out if a bigger tree like this guy falls on top of it but we moved our fence line when we built the fence around the farm so we could drive the perimeter and so we would be off the edge of the forest and we wouldn't have big trees toppling over our fence not quite as good as new but almost as good as new guys thank you guys so much for joining me here on the Stoney Ridge Farm I just want to show you what I did to fix a fence repair when the tree falls down on the fence and I also want to show you some of the Cool Tools we use here every day on the Stoney Ridge Farm there'll be a link down the video description to the wood Max wood chipper and to all the tools that we used in today's video aside from the 572 XP you can't get that online you got to go to a husky dealer to get that see you guys take care have a wonderful day [Music] don't be ready right now drop the tree on the fence last night and get on the stairs you know and it's another Stoney Ridge Rock see you guys
